Suppose you got to choose one of RoCo or Nurk to include in a trade - who would you keep? (A center is not coming back in the trade.)

If the non center coming back in the trade is Simmons then I'd keep RoCo because Simmons is as big as a C also if the non center coming to us in the trade is Siakam I'd still keep RoCo. I really like the idea of a Nance, RoCo, Simmons or Siakam front court. I think either would be a nightmare to defend against and would be nice offensively... especially with a Dame/Norm back court.

Will echo a few others in that I'd need to know who is coming in to say for sure. But if you say a C is NOT coming back in the deal, I have a hard time sending out Nurk, and relying on Zeller and Nance as our only 2 Cs on the roster. That, IMO, does not make us a better team next season.

I'd think Simmons could play C against a lot of teams. A Dame-Powell-RoCo-Nance-Simmons lineup offers many options, great mobility, and lots of versatility

and Portland could fill out one of the two slots remaining with another C. Hartenstein and Chriss?

but yeah, dropping from Nurkic to Zeller is quite a downgrade against some of those teams that could punish Simmons/Zeller with a Gobert or Jokic

I'm with the Blazers. I like them both. I wouldn't trade either if it didn't make us much better.

But if I were to send somebody it would be Nurk. Injury history and attitude both lean toward me keeping RoCo. I don't want to see either guy go, though. But if I HAD to choose...

I would just struggle to see a team flipping their starting lineup that often, teams generally stick to a rotation for a reason, guys get used to when they're in, when they're out, who they often get their minutes with.
Simmons is the height of a C, but I think you lose a lot of what he brings on defense if you have him as a C< where he isn't going to be a rim protector the way you might want in a C. I also think we already are a mediocre rebounding team. Simmons is a good rebounder for a PG, but I don't want him battling for rebounds with the Jokic's and Goberts of the league.

all good points

I'm not sure why philly would want Nurkic anyway, and it's hard to see RoCo making or breaking the trade

Because of injury history, today's premium on versatile 3+D forwards, and variety of playing styles in the playoffs I would easily take Roco over Nurk.

I'd probably expect in an upcoming regular season game Nurk will have a more beneficial impact to a win than Roco.

But I look at the value of the player in building a title contender. There are tons of veteran minimum centers who do a respectable job. However even for the full MLE its hard to get a decent forward. All star centers like Gobert can be played off the floor in the playoffs by bench players such as Reggie Jackson.

The upgrade from a player such as Snell to Roco is much larger than the upgrade from Zeller to Nurk.

When considering trading a player like Roco is it because of his salary or because of the position he plays. A vet team will want Roco because he is ready now. A young team will want Little because of his potential. To me, that is the real debate of who to keep/trade. But it still comes down to who we would get in return.

Plus there needs to be a third choice. On BOTH their sides. That's the one i choose.

The only reason this is a viable question is because Nurk is soft and lazy on the court plus he can't stay healthy. We should also mention he fouls out with stupid reach fouls.
Because of all that and the fact that a thread like this is viable you absolutely keep RoCo.

I need my Nurk Fever rekindled. I've got to remember his 5 block/5 steal performances and forget the missed bunnies. I've also got to remember that he had a positive +/- in the Denver series, and Jokic had a negative one, and if we didn't have him, there would be nobody to even slow Jokic down.

Bottom line: RoCo is our most reliable forward. (Nance has injury issues and Powell is really a guard) Nurk really isn't reliable - period. It's too bad, as many of us had high hopes for the guy.

If there was no Nurk the game plan would have been totally different. We wouldn't have stuck Kanter or RHJ in single coverage on Jokic the whole game. The game plan was setup in a way for Nurk to shine and in his minutes on the court he did well.

If you flip Nurk for a starter quality talent forward and a vet minimum center this team might have crushed Denver. So I don't believe Nurk was some rare talent.

All that said I'm very excited to see Nurk with Billups as the coach. He has a much higher ceiling than Roco.

If he actually decides to listen and can stay healthy. It would be nice to see him actually dunk the ball once in a while as well.

that would be nice. But, he's 27 years old entering his 8th nba season and has been playing organized half of his life. That's kind of late to be expecting a leopard to change his spots very much. Old habits die hard

Yeah. I'm pretty close to being done with Nurk. I want to see where he is 20 games into this season. Hoping for the best.
