Rodney Hood a Blazer

I don't think Olshey is done yet I believe he will attempt to make another deal. I think either Layman or Harkless is in play for a trade.

I'm a little saddened by losing Baldwin, I hope he succeeds in the league. I like his game (tho I was disappointed in his play this year).

I'm ambivalent about Stauskus.
Agreed.

This is a good trade. A solid single which could be stretched into a double depending upon how the playoffs unfold. Good job Neil.

I just wish we would've been able to keep Wade & send out Swainagan instead....

I'm cool with this trade. Gonna miss having Nik mainly because I loved the options the "Sauce" nickname provided.

So now that we have an extra roster spot, which direction do you think we go? 2 way player or another vet on a minimum contract? Are we still over the cap?

Here is a little (pre-draft) on his defense: "Hood's biggest weakness as a NBA prospect likely revolves around his defense, as he shows questionable intensity on this end of the floor, rarely getting into an actual stance and frequently being knocked off balance and taken advantage of off the dribble due to his lack of strength. His relatively short arms don't do him any favors here, as he measured just a 6-8 wingspan on a few occasions, which is accurately reflected in his inability to generate steals (.9 per-40), blocks (.3) or rebounds (4.9), all of which rank among the worst rates in the draft at his position. - Source: http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Rodney-Hood-5723/ ©DraftExpress
Hood has decent lateral quickness, so he could end up becoming at least adequate in this area, but he'll have to improve his motor and hustle quite a bit and also get stronger and tougher, as he allows himself to get pushed around without resistance more than you'd hope. - Source: http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Rodney-Hood-5723/ ©DraftExpress

Someone who might contribute....for two players that were not contributing. Seems like a good deal.

Portland doesn't have a 2nd round pick until Anfernee Simons has grandchildren but that's not a huge deal.

And yet, we manage to get someone in the second round every year. Through cash or other reasons.

Probably what sold Olshey (I’m joking chill)

I haven’t followed him at Cleveland because it’s really impossible to watch Cleveland but if he can show some of his best form from Utah days this will be a good move. Second round picks have little value, Stauskas has not been playing since his good start and Baldwin has not played here at al basically.

Hood had to agree to the trade, because his signing of a one-year, $3.4M qualifying offer last summer with Cleveland granted him veto rights. He'll lose his Bird Rights in summer free agency, but his enthusiasm for joining the Blazers on a playoff push allowed for his approval of the deal, league sources said. Portland can still re-sign Hood using one of its exceptions. The Blazers are 32-20 and fourth in the Western Conference.

Problem with Hood with the Cavs is he would either have a decent scoring game or he can't hit the broad side of a barn. Maybe the Blazers staff can change that. IDK.

Surprised Baldwin hasn't gotten more run in this league. He's the kind of guy the Warriors would pick up and make into a second uint star.

If he is a forward, I guess he will be our only forward who can run pic and roll; long time since Batum. Also like that he is good at scoring on cuts; doesn't happen much though.

Blazers get rid of two players who weren't going to contribute, for 1 player that might.

Portland already has traded their 2019 & 2020 2nds away

Blazers added about 250K in salary and 440K in luxury tax
Technically our 2020 pick we owe is one of those top-55 protected ones so we could still trade it with the opposite protection.

It didn't end up being used here though.

Wonder what the immediate rotation is, assuming there isn’t another trade before Tuesday. Seems kind of cluttered.

Dame
CJ
Harkless
Aminu
Nurkic

Curry
Hood
Turner
Collins
Leonard

No way Layman gets benched. Seems like there will be another move.

Zach
Curry
Meyers

unless Hood morphs into a player he has never been, looks like Olshey has managed to upgrade the 10th man in the rotation. It's something I guess, but doesn't generate much enthusiasm.

Decent trade for a solid bench presence talent but I really hope there’s another trade coming, like one that sends one of Nards or ET out.
