q: Joe, do you expect all 3 rookies to play in summer league?

a: turns pale, clears throat, nervously blurts out "..yes."

Cronin says FO had all 3 ranked as lottery level prospects

Comments like that are concerning to me because it means one of the following:
  1. Cronin is flat out lying - I hope this is the case
  2. Ownership/the front office are unable or unwilling to move up to the late 1st, early 2nd round to draft a guy they have a top 15 grade on.

I'll be honest with you... it sounds like they used some real guile in landing Rupert. I'm not trying to blow smoke because I'm still extremely disappointed that Joe hasn't done right by Dame but getting a hold of Rayan's agent and somehow getting him to call other teams and tell them that Rayan only wanted to play for us is smarter than trading up, if you can pull it off and it sounds like that's what they did.

You are reaching to knock the guy… he said 1st rd picks were in high demand right before that, so not easy to acquire.

Probably means nothing, but Joe didn't seem comfortable at all during his post draft availability or during this conference.

Yeah, I hear you on the agent asking other teams to not draft him, but if you have a top 15 grade on a guy in a deep draft and he's available in the late 1st, you should be making moves to get him. And we saw teams trade out of the 1st for 2nd round picks.

LOL.. knock who? I've been called a Cronin apologist not that long ago; I defend a lot of his moves and get plenty of push back for it.

Boston traded their 1st for 3 second round picks. We have a lot of second round picks to trade

He knows he just forced out not only the best player in Blazers history but the guy that has created the strongest connection in team history maybe since some of our championship team with the fans and definitely the guy that has been most about this community. He is always a big timid but as I just pointed out, Dame is not talking to him, he is having his agent do all of the communicating. I think because of the quality of individual that Dame is he wants to tell Joe in person the things he has to say because they must be very serious... or maybe I'm wrong and Dame is just having too much fun in France to address his career and life... but I doubt that's it.

Dame doesn’t care about you… he’s rich and enjoying life… time for you to move on.

Good for him.

I'm talking about our firsts and them supposedly being in high demand.

Apparently ours weren't.
Oh no, I think Joe already knows that he's in a full rebuild because how are guys like Dame and Jerami going to feel when they see this and hear Joe talk about all of the teams that called with a very high value and many offers on pick 23. This fucking guy kept saying he wanted to build an experienced contender around Dame and with the exception of Jerami ultimately has only made moves towards a youth rebuild.

Yeah, I see that. Likely Dame is gone. We likely won't be resigning Grant. Nurkic needs to be moved. Simons might as well stay. Sucks.

You are being so negative about 3 amazing prospects we just drafted because of Dame… making it about one player over the team… it’s kinda weird. Don’t know how you can watch that press conference and not be impressed and excited about the future.

Joe still hasn't talked to him. Not a great sign.
Honestly I'm sad about it but I've abandoned my sincere hope that Dame would play his whole career here and have a chance to win titles here. Maybe I'll be surprised but Dame and the value that he has just doesn't make sense on the roster that has been built. I don't want to have to watch Dame and Scoot try to blend playing styles that don't seem to work from my perspective and I don't want Dame taking away from the experience our youth need to get or the youth getting experience take away from Dame's chances to win big.

Dame is the greatest Blazer of all time in my mind but at this point a trade is necessary. Reasons for this include…

Scoot’s Development

The cloud of rumors and negativity about Dames future here which must be a distraction

And finally that fact that running multiple timelines is stupid as fuck because you’re not committing full resources to either one.

You not understanding why Dame likely leaving this team makes true fans of this team unhappy is what is more than kinda weird... it's actually suspect and didn't CC just tell you he wasn't fucking talking about Dame. You're the one who is incessantly trolling people here about the fact that they feel loyalty to both Dame and the team.

This is the sad reality that I just want to move past so I can fully be excited for the upside of what should be a roster filled with potential and a roster that should be really fun to watch. It will be a lot easier to stomach losses from a bunch of guys in their early 20s than guys that should be competing for playoff series.

Dude, he’s 33… he’s not gonna play forever, it’s gonna end eventually. Think logically about the situation… we hit the jackpot on a quick turnaround with the lasts 2 drafts. Makes no sense to throw that away to try and compete the next 3 years when there is no realistic path to a title.

They were in high demand but what better way to force Dame out of Portland than refuse to trade vets for our picks? Seems obvious to me that Toronto and New Orleans low balled us with the offers and the picks were worth more than what was offered...mainly due to medicals and the cost of risky trades. I think Joe got value with his choices and knows he has to pay Grant and a couple other vets to complete the roster and that rookie salaries are like gold with the new cap. They did due diligence in the trade market with the picks and came up with no trades...there was only one trade during the draft process..that tells you how valuable rookie pay scales are with the new CBA
