Bouchard makes poor start on grass, Brengle through in Rosmalen
Eugenie Bouchard made another miserable start to the grass-court season when she suffered an emphatic first-round defeat to qualifier Elise Mertens at the Rosmalen Grass Court Championships.
Former world number five Bouchard lost her opener in each of the last two years at the WTA International tournament in the Netherlands and fell at the first hurdle once again on Monday.
The seventh seed from Canada, beaten by Timea Bacsinszky in the second round of the French Open, went down 6-2 6-0 against unheralded Belgian Mertens in only 52 minutes.
