LaMarcus Aldridge stayed hot on Sunday with 28 points and 10 rebounds as the Blazers crushed the Clipppers.

The problem with Aldridge is that he doesn't block enough shots, and he failed to get one tonight. He's scored 20 or more in three of his last four games, but has blocked just one or zero shots in 17 of his last 19 outings.

True. Blocks are relatively scare in fantasy, and you want to get good production from the PF/C spots. LMA is below average in that regard. From a fantasy perspective you'd like to see him improve his rebounding too, as that is below average for his position.

LMA is actually a pretty average or ordinary fantasy player. He doesn't excel particularly in any category that can really help a team, but he doesn't hurt a team by being overly defecient in areas either.

And again, blocks mean much more to fantasy than it does in real-life, where man-defense is really more important in the grand scheme of things.

This sort of shit irks me. LaMarcus is already a very good defender. There's more to defense than blocks.

The real complaint here isn't about Basketball, but that LA doesn't help out your fantasy roster enough. Dorks.

I actually enjoy them. You have to realize that it is not a pure representation of the game, and sometimes more like the stock market where you are betting that certain players will outperform others. Granted, nearly every fantasy game using standardized categorizes result in the best players in real life rating the best in the fantasy game as well.

So if you like numbers and understand how to play the games, they can be quite fun. In reality, I think that LMA is a better basketball player than gets represented in fantasy. Yet fantasy also allows you to see players who are quite good without throwing up gaudy stats such as Shane Battier or Delonte West.

But you're right about there being some calibration issues. In real life you wouldn't say that Josh Smith is a top-15 player (or Marcus Camby) but they can be justified in getting drafted that high in fantasy drafts due to their unique ability to get far more blocks than almost anyone else in the league. On the flip side, in Rotisserie leagues having Dwight Howard can really hurt you due to his anemic FT%, yet no one would argue that Dwight is closer to a "Top 5" player rather than a "Top 50" player as he might rate out in some games.

Regardless, I still think it's fun. Because of it I'll never forget when Kobe scored 81 (he was on my team) or about how much I loved the 05'-06' Boris Diaw. But it's not for everyone...
