Article on Yahoo (quoting the Oregonian): http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/rumors/post/Blazers-Roy-has-1-2-years-left-?urn=nba-322165

The "consulting surgeon" on the three-time All-Star informed the paper that if the 26-year-old wants to continue playing, the team needs to do the following: "A) Limit Roy's practice reps to almost nothing; B) Play him off the bench in 65-75 or so games a season, choosing rest in key spots; C) pray."

The surgeon predicts that the 2007 NBA Rookie of the Year will only be able to play for one or two more seasons.

Here's a story from today Oregonian saying "It's possible that shooting guard Brandon Roy could play tonight." http://www.oregonlive.com/blazers/index.ssf/2011/02/blazers_11.html

As I've said in a different thread, Brandon should In my Opinion sit until he's fully healthy, I'm wondering if him coming back tonight isn't too soon but am willing to at least hope the coaching-staff/trainers know what they're doing.
A not-fully-healthy Brandon Roy would hurt our chances more than help them, as he is - in his eyes and even in the eyes of the players - a player that deserves a big role when playing. I think we're better off without him playing than with him playing that role un-healthy.

A healthy Brandon Roy gives us a 5 player rotation of Andre, Brandon, Rudy, Mathewss and Batum at the 1/2/3 positions. Patty Mills is used to waiving towels and if Brandon IS healthy, I'm guessing that's mostly what he'll do.
10 Minutes of Patty leaves us with 134 minutes for the other 5 players which is close to 27 minutes per game for each.
With Camby's injury, Joel getting somewhat limited playing time and Sean Marks being Sean Marks, Dante would get his minutes mostly in the front-court and I'm guessing there'll even be some minutes for another SF (Batum?) in a big-man role, which means some more minutes to be spread between the other players listed.

I can't say for sure that even a healthy Brandon Roy increases our chances in the near future because him coming back will surely distrupt the chemistry for at least a game or two. Anyway, I would like him to play a limited role at least for now, both for his sake and the team's sake. Players like Rudy, Mathewss, even Patty were playing very well in his absence and I wouldn't like to see their minutes decrease too much.
I'm hoping he comes back in good shape but also that he accepts a less alpha-male role, I like the way we're playing lately and I think a lot of it has to do with us playing team-basketball when even LaMarcus gets most of his points 'the right way' by going inside and taking high-percentage shots.
I'm definitely not saying Brandon isn't a good player. He's a gifted, inteliigent basketball player but for us to maximize the advantages of him coming back he should be a) healthy and b) part of a structure that puts the Team-concept ahead of any individual player.

The last few games that BROY played Nate gave up on the 'No PG" line-up. It does not work. I don't think Patty will go back to waving towels. If Roy is healthy enough to contribute, I see more small ball with Rudy, Broy and a PG in together.

Mostly his return will just give us more depth if (and when) someone gets hurt. But I think the minutes to watch will be Dante's, Rudy's, and Nic's. They all may go down. Wes actually could use a few more minutes of rest.

whats your definition of fully healthy? The cartilage he's lost in both knees to multiple surgeries doesn't need a few more weeks to grow back, it's gone for good.

If he's thought to be as healthy as he's going to be and then he goes out and struggles like earlier this year, will the board be in an uproar screaming about the Blazers Docs/trainers yet again?

Exactly. Brandon is never going to be fully healthy again minus some massive breakthrough in medical science. So the idea that he's got one or two years left with limited minutes doesn't seem all that far-fetched to me. However, I'm sure there will be factions of people that will point to the training staff if he struggles again or goes down again.

The likeliest outcome is that Brandon the all-star is locked somewhere in the past, I'm sure he'll have the occasional outburst of good play, but his career track has an arrow pointing down.

I agree with this. However, where you point to the medical staff is "how did they miss this before he signed his new contract?".

Why on earth would a surgeon tell the newspaper that? If he were my surgeon, I'd sue his ass. That is, if the story is true. Which I doubt.

However, I don't doubt the prognostication is true. I just doubt the 'source.'

Good point. Assuming the doctor is a top shelf dr, they would never talk to the media about a patient. Just out of courtesy and professionalism. Then add to that the whole doctor patient privilege and no way this doctor is blabbing to the media.

Typical Canzano "unnamed source". It's probably a combination of comments he's heard, third hand, filtered through his own personal agenda to stir shit up and be the source of self-manufacture "controversay".

They didn't. The word around the team for years was that Brandon's wheels were going to come off. It's just we thought we had a few more years.

I believe that is what the hesitation to re-sign him was all about. This board was ripping KP for taking so long.

Yep. That's why the fifth year was a big deal.

This thread title is one of the most depressing I've ever seen on this board.
