Re: Roy Absent during National Anthem

Of course I went there. Many black people have been extraordinarily successful in this country, especially black athletes, and it's an extra reason for Roy to be thankful for living in this country.

black athletes are an extra reason to love america? wtf man

Re: Roy Absent during National Anthem

LOL i dont check the forums for 24 hours and this is what i come to find.

I just can't understand why certain people get so up in arms over someone's freedom(s). The irony in here boggles my mind.

Anyway, HCP I expect some greatness in the Net's game, so make sure your cuts and replays include something in it for us.

Re: Roy Absent during National Anthem

The fact remains that both of them are really, really crappy songs.

That's a matter of opinion. I disagree. I personally think that the lyrics to "America the Beautiful" are...well...beautiful, and that the melody is simple yet simultaneously majestic. I don't find it to be a "crappy" song at all.

Re: Roy Absent during National Anthem

So, Brandon Roy likes to sit in solitude during the National Anthem, and pray or be alone.

How is that much different than the odd practice of standing in a line on a basketball court? Why is one patriotic and the other isn't? Why is one correct, and the other is wrong?

He isn't being disrespectful, but the concrete interpretation that some people make about what makes you an American or how you must do what I do if you are to be a true American, is.

He sits in the tunnel area, and prays or has a moment alone. Why is that any worse than the times when I've talked to my dad about something during the NA? Not like we've carried on conversations, but I'll lean over to him and say "man, this singer/group is great/sucks/butchering the song!" And my dad, a veteran, will say something back.

Our people don't do that!

It is so presumptuous for anyone to declare their brand of American traditions or values as the mold for which we judge anyone else.

I support Brandons right to honor the National Anthem how he see's fit. I'm fairly certain he has the right to not be standing in a line. It'd be nice if he did, but I don't think it should be a requirement.

Plus, he's doing it because Obama and the rest of us socialist have recruited him to do so, and help start the trend of disparaging the flag!

Похвалите Мать Россия!

didn't you realize it means everything is great now?

Re: Roy Absent during National Anthem

"I love America," Aldridge said.
Doesn't that disturb anyone else?

Yeah! That stupid song about the Horse with No Name? Jeez.

I thought he was talking about her.

I hate fish and chips... OH BUT I LOVE ENGLAND, I'M PATRIOTIC SO DON'T KILL ME.

Those two things are incompatible. However, you are allowed to substitute black pudding or, if Scottish, deep fried Mars Bars.

They are quite possibly the most compatible foods known to man.

How would you feel if the entire Blazer team stood in the tunnel during the national anthem while the other team was lined up on the court? Would this be unacceptable to you, or just a simple act of "freedom"?

Re: Roy Absent during National Anthem

Are you kidding?? I definitely see a point in writing about it. I had no idea that Roy stood in the tunnel during the national anthem. What the hell is that all about??

His explanation sounds fishy to me, as well. It sounds like he DOES have a political motivation, and he's just afraid to voice it. I salute Canzano for reporting on this. Count me as one of the people disturbed by this revelation.

what if it was for religious reasons that he didnt do it? then would it be a problem. Also I could remember wrong... but I thought I heard or read somewhere that Sabas didnt stand for the national anthem.

Re: Roy Absent during National Anthem

I really wish that after Canzano wrote one of these columns that Brandon would just kick him right in the gnards the next time he see's him.

Gee, I don't know. Come to think of it, sitting on the bench when you're taking a breather is also kind of "odd." Maybe Roy should be allowed to go to the tunnel when he's out of the game, just so he can be alone. And flying with the rest of the team on Blazer One is also kind of an "odd practice." Why don't we just let Roy fly his own plane to the games??

It's a strange thing about freedom. If you really support it, you should not put limits on it, should you?

Again, I don't give a shit. Why should I?

Why do we have to treat people as outcasts that don't conform to your moral guidelines?

This is America, people have freedoms here, and in that, it doesn't require anyone to be required to stand on the basketball court during the over-hyped "national anthem".

Roy is no more a bad guy in this situation than you are.

Re: Roy Absent during National Anthem

the issue, with me, is team togetherness. holding hands before and after games is now mandatory.

So your problem with Roy being in the tunnel during the national anthem is a matter of team unity? Really?

So, then, you'd have no problem with the entire team being in the tunnel during the national anthem, I gather. They'd all be together, no Roy going off doing his own thing.

Actually, he is better. He respects Shooter's freedom and does not seem to set an agenda for him.

Hey Cansucko. Go fuck yourself and eat shit and die. Fuck you and
your piece of shit columns that are so "Stirring the Pot" you should
have green skin, a nice wart on your nose and scream "e-EEEEEE-
hehehehe-EEEE" .

Signed,
A fan of the Blazers, not like you.

LOL, well at least he has a sense of humor.

Re: Roy Absent during National Anthem

So whats next? If I happen to need to go takea whiz because I drank too much beer before the game, and the national anthem starts while I am in the whizzer, am I some pinko commie then? Get a frackin life.

Re: Roy Absent during National Anthem

This was my response.

"I love this country, and the anthem means so much to me, but instead of harping on what, you believe, is a fault or distraction from Roy, maybe write something positive about his positive influence he has to fans, children and his team mates. Do you honestly think that Roy dislikes this country? Do you really believe that he's trying to make a statement? Do you think Roy would still be doing this if he knew that he was being a distraction?

The main reason why I have problems with your columns is during positive times regarding the Blazers, you fish and fish for something negative to write. For me, that's no better than being a Rush, Stern or even Cowherd. You want to be the one everyone hates, because it forces people to read your filth. I think that's cowardly.

GO BLAZERS!"

Re: Roy Absent during National Anthem

The really sad part is anyone anywhere falls for it.

The sad part is, we can tell you didn't read this thread ;] Because all of your points were said.
