I love your avatar. Now make one with Batum, Mills, Rudy and Joel Freeland in front of the flag!

Re: Roy Absent during National Anthem

Let me get this straight. A black person can tell me that his people are a separate and unique group of people, but if I agree with him then I'm a racist??

:biglaugh:

If you were to shout "I'm a fucking American!" would you feel the meaning is the same if a French man shouted "He's a fucking American!" ?

I want one now with Brandon's head on Ivan Drago's body!

You can't do that, you crazy bastard. Drago plays for the Utah Jazz. That would be un-patriotic!

So you consider "my people" to be the same as "my fucking people"?

do you think it's appropriate for black people to say Honkey?

Re: Roy Absent during National Anthem

Wasn't this on TV a few days ago? Roy always does that. Who cares? It is his way to get pumped up. I don't know why Canzano wrote this. It was already reported a few days ago.

Get some new material Johnny boy.

Anyhow, I actually think it is pretty cool that Roy does that. I have zero problem with it. I like it more then I dislike it.

Yup. See, you can be taught! :)

And, obviously, you're misconstruing what I said. I said that telling someone else who "their people" are is different (and, in your case, seems pretty racist). You aren't "agreeing" with Roy saying that black people are "his people," since he never said any such thing. You're telling him that black people are "his people." I know you can see the difference, but I also know that you purposely try to "misunderstand" things in order to make yourself a victim. ;)

Re: Roy Absent during National Anthem

But what if a marine said he disliked it?

Re: Roy Absent during National Anthem

So you consider "my people" to be the same as "my fucking people"?

I think the issue isn't so much the use of the colorful word, but the implication it comes with.

When someone says "that's my sister", it's usually somewhat prideful. But when you say "that's his sister", you have to admit that it might come off as you being disrespectful towards him and his sister.

So that if I were to say "Yah, I'm an American!" it's not in the same tone as if someone from Germany or the Soviet Union says "Yah, he's an American".

You're treading on dangerous waters here, because you seem to be associating two different things here. I don't know if Roy said "my people", but in a way when you call someone else a group (in this sense, "my people" taking ownership, vs "his people/your people",) you are imposing your power onto them and in a way, saying they're not "American" enough.

I don't think it makes you racist, it just makes you look like someone who refuses to see that there just might possibly be different ways to express the same thing.

What the hell is your deal? How did you get this from the OP thread? You are like Canzano. Just looking to start shit out of thin air.

A Private Guy

o yeah. Roy retreats to the tunnel before games. He bows his head. He listens to the anthem. And Roy said: "I say a little prayer and have a little time to myself." And maybe that doesn't strike you as a team leader thinking team, and being part of a team, but his teammates don't mind.

He's always there for his team when the lights go up, isn't he? --- Canzano

This was written in January.

Re: Roy Absent during National Anthem

Yep, I hate the blacks. That's why I have Brandon Roy for my avatar.

Lots of avowed racists enjoy blacks as entertainers. There's a rich history of that going back a ways.

Not saying that you are an avowed racist. You certainly don't avow it. But your argument for why you couldn't possibly be racist isn't very strong.

Re: Roy Absent during National Anthem

How did this thread go from Roy's patriotism, to people being racist? For me, all races are equally hated. Let's light off some fireworks and launch all our nukes! Then the butterflies, bambies and flowers will control this planet.

Re: Roy Absent during National Anthem

I figure since Roy needs some support from another fellow pinko commie, I'll go hang out with him in the tunnel during the anthem too. I wouldn't want to be caught dead with all the Blazer fans in the arena, them being the out standing patriots that they are.:devilwink:

Re: Roy Absent during National Anthem

This would be a great Abbott and Costello routine . . .

Roy: "I love my people."

Shooter: "You SHOULD love your people."

Roy: "What the heck? How dare you say that?"

Shooter: "Say what?"

Brandon Roy: "your people."

Shooter: "YOU said they were 'your people."

Roy: "Yes, I did, but you can't say they are my people."

Shooter: "But they ARE your people. You just said so."

Roy: "I know I did, but that was me. You aren't allowed to say it."

Shooter: "Why not?"

Roy: "Because Minstrel said so."

Shooter: "Who's Minstrel?"

Roy: "He's one of your people."

Shooter: "'What the heck? He's not one of my people!"

Roy: "Well, he sure isn't one of mine."

Roy never said anything about "my" people.
