Roy/Durant/ZBo= Blazers Big Three?

Precisely. Three volume shooters on one team would not work, plain and simple.

Depends on how guys get their shots/touches. Z-bo gets a ton of shots off of his own misses and offensive boards, Roy is enough of a distributor that his assist totals would probably keep climbing, while his shot attempts would have fallen. To say those guys wouldn't have been able to play together and get their shots, is the same as suggesting that Roy, LMA and Oden can't coexist and get their shots.

This weekend could sum up KP's decision:

Durant was playing in the All-Star game.

Greg Oden is walking around the mall with a cane.

Hmm...guess KP's crystal ball must have been on the fritz on draft day.

The last four years he's been injury plagued, actually.

It's difficult for me to watch Durant play, because I feel like I want him to fail when he's playing. Not an overt feeling on my part, but something underlying, and it makes me contradict myself because the dude has such a beautiful and fluid game. The whole Oden v. Durant period has taken away some of my ability to appreciate Durant. I wanted Oden at the time, and if he can ever stay healthy, I'd still want him, but Durant has already turned into an elite player.

So, I guess I feel ... what? Jealousy? Regret? A feeling that things have turned out unfair since the day we drafted Oden? I'm not the type of person who generally roots against players (a few exceptions include Kobe Bryant and Karl Malone), but I find myself doing it regarding Durant, and I like the guy as a public image and as a player. I also root against Zach Randolph, but only because it kills me to see that he got his shit straight. If he was the guy he is now in Portland, we'd all love him. Then again, Zach had terrible 'role models' during the Jail Blazer era, so I'm starting to give him a pass as time wears on. Young and poor to young and rich, with Ruben Patterson, Bonzi Wells, Rasheed Wallace, Qyntel Woods, etc. to "guide" him. Poor Zach never had a chance.

Durant may break Kareem's record, but he won't break the one LBJ will set. So that is kind of a moot point. Who cares, scoring doesn't win you championships alone. Iverson proved that when he was just a scorer, it got Philly no where.

I do agree you should have picked Durant over Oden, but hindsight is 20/20, right?

:dunno: Based on the facts we knew then, we all liked the pick. That just means we were ALL wrong. :devilwink:

Yeah, unless of course Durant suffers a serious injury, in which case we were all right. Well, except that KP also passed on Horford. Man, he does suck at this draft pick thingy. :devilwink:

By "nowhere" I guess you include the NBA Finals?

In an incredibly weak conference that essentially sent the JV squad to the Finals.

Yeah, it was weak.

But the Sixers were also the only team to even register a win in the playoffs against that awesome Lakers team.

The fact they kept those fuckers from going undefeated in the playoffs is enough to make me warm to Iverson more than I'm naturally inclined.

Did they win? No. They were one bad game from the Lakers' away from getting their asses swept.

Oden helped us get to the playoffs as a #4 seed last year.

What seed of the playoffs has Durant taken the Thunder? Or Zach taken the Grizz?

Zippo, Nadda, zero, zilch!!

We'll be fine when he comes back for next year.

Oden rode the coattails of Brandon Roy.

Put Oden on that OKC team last year and they'd still be a lotto team with a better chance at getting that #1 pick.

Zach helped turn the Grizz from a joke to a respectable team that can beat you on any given night.

Damn, that would be a good big 3. But I think it took Zach being tossed around like like PapaG's manhood from team to team to get him to straighten out. If he stayed in Portland, he would have only got worse. IMO.

Well when Durant carries his team to the 4th seed in the West this year I guess they'll be even.

Oden did? Really? Try again please.

How did the two players' college teams do their freshman year?

Ed O.

That Oden is dead and gone. He was a beast before the knee injuries. His athletic ability now is on par with a young Dale Davis. In other words, he's not the same player.

Of course, if we had Durant he'd be lucky to average 18 ppg in our glacially slow offense where the small forward's only role on offense it to stand in the corner and wait for an occasional kick out to launch a 3-pointer with less than 4 on the shot clock.

Of course, with Roy and Zach dominating the ball, that 18 ppg may be a stretch.

Dead and gone? I must have missed the obituary.

Oden looked to be returning to his old physically dominant self before breaking his knee cap. And a broken knee cap is not the type of injury that robs a player of his athleticism.

Watching the All Star game I can't think about how it could've been. Would they have won titles with a serviceable big man in the paint, be it Joel or Haywood or Oberto or Okafor or whomever you like?

It's hard not to wonder. Durant's 21 and there are already rumblings that he may turn out to be one of the greatest players of all time, sure to top Kareem's scoring record.

No, bad kingspeed, bad.

I beg to differ. He significantly lost his lateral quickness and not nearly as explosive.

It would work great as long as Portland could play with two basketballs on the court. It would also be an awesome fantasy league team.

Since there is but one ball and the NBA is a reality league those three would not be able to co-exist on the same team.

If Pierce, Allen, and Garnett can co-exist on the same team, then so could Roy, Durant, and ZBo.

If Greg can stay healthy he can be this

I guess it's good we didn't take Jordan. We had Drexler and there weren't enough basketballs to go around, right?

Last year yes, due to the microfracture surgery. This year, before the broken knee cap he was definitely showing more lateral quickness and explosiveness. Perhaps not yet back to pre-injury, but headed in that direction.

I still don't think we've seen Oden in true game shape. He gained so much weight the year he sat out and still went into this season considerably heavier than he was at OSU.

BNM.
