Re: Roy intends to come back as a starter: Here we go agaon

He outplayed Matthews in the playoffs. If Roy wins the spot in camp, then start him. If Matthews is the better player, then start Wes.

It's not like Roy would be supplanting some all-NBA player.

Re: Roy intends to come back as a starter: Here we go agaon

Working hard to reclaim a starting job. How exactly is that a bad thing?

Re: Roy intends to come back as a starter: Here we go agaon

I don't find anything wrong with what he said.

do not necessarily think it will be bad, i do hope however if he does not start that he has no problem with an off the bench role. Secondly, as long as he can practice as much as the other players that's fine, if his practice time is limited that IMO is a problem

Re: Roy intends to come back as a starter: Here we go agaon

Really? Roy's overall playoff performance against Dallas convinced me he can't. Even during his miracle scoring run in game 4 he moved like a shell of himself. He's incapable of playing defense. He can't play point guard. The team stands around and watches him when he's on the court. He can shoot and he is a scorer, but unless he will learn to do it within the offense and without relying on isos, I'd rather he play only situational spot minutes. His long stint in the first half in game 6 basically cost us the game, IMO. My best case for Brandon is that he learns to fit in without having to dominate the ball, and that he fits in off the bench as a scorer and shooter. If that's what he works on during the off season, I'll be a happy camper.

I am not saying what he said was necessarily a problem, I do think there is a fairly decent chance it "might" become a problem depending how things go, long ways to go, and I generally agree with what "Bbert" wrote in the previous post

Re: Roy intends to come back as a starter: Here we go agaon

If he never practices, but plays at a high level in the games, I couldn't really care less, to be honest. I'm assuming he will accept the role he earns. Like PapaG said, ifhe beats him out, start him, and if not, 6th man.

I think not practicing IS a problem, but maybe I am wrong

Re: Roy intends to come back as a starter: Here we go agaon

Nothing wrong with having a player that has the desire to start. I would be more concerned if he pulled a miles and sat on his ass on a fat contract. Roy is a competitor and it's good that he has the desire to be the best. This is denifinetly not a bad thing!

Re: Roy intends to come back as a starter: Here we go agaon

thinking more about it I would prefer he said he was going do everything possible to get ready for next season "to help the team win in any way he can", just an opinion guys

Re: Roy intends to come back as a starter: Here we go agaon

Hopefully Roy does come back as a starter. I just hope it's on a different team after the new CBA allows us to waive him with no cap hit

I think it's a problem if it means the entire offense grinds to a halt so you can go ISO-on-five because you don't know how to run the plays or play with your teammates, and they don't know how to play with you. There's also the potential for team conflict when everyone isn't held to the same standard.

a +1 from me on that

Roy thinks he can best help the team win by starting. If he can't beat out Wes, then he doesn't deserve to start, and at that point, hopefully he sees that being a very good 6th man is the best way for him to help the team win.

I'm not sure that Roy should start, but I like that he still has the mentality of a starter. Some players would just sit back and collect their max contract. Brandon seems to want to earn his by trying to help his team.

Re: Roy intends to come back as a starter: Here we go agaon

He meant he's going to walk the earth in search of a magical source of new knees. And THEN come back as a starter.

Re: Roy intends to come back as a starter: Here we go agaon

And, then you had to go and show your bias. Now I know why you started this thread.

Do I "hate" Roy? not at all. Do I think the team's future chances are likely better without him given his knees? yes i do. If the new CBA has an amnesty clause where we get a lux tax break on Roy's contract - I would be in favor of us using it.

I don't really care about a luxury tax break re: Roy's contract. That's Paul Allen's issue. If it affects the cap number, though, then I'd be interested, since a replacement could potentially be signed with that cap space.

I care and I think it does matter, going over the lux cap to even sign your own players under current guidelines would cost twice as much given where we are cap wise. I think Allen would think twice about having to pay double vs just paying the player's salary, not having Roy's escalating contract throwing us into lux cap territory IMO is important, especially if his level of play remains like it was the last few months of the season - which I think is the most likely outcome.

Which unsigned players on the roster are you worried about losing if Roy's tax dollars aren't taken off of the salary obligations?

Re: Roy intends to come back as a starter: Here we go agaon

I like that he's willing to work to be a starter, he still wants to be great. It's too bad his body doesn't agree with him.

Yeah it's too bad. I have a question though... This issue has been reoccurring for Roy for the last 2 years. He had this same treatment 4 times already. Does that mean he was being all-star Roy on the same fucked up knees? If that's true, then why couldn't he get back to original form?

I'd love to see him at all star for again, but the condition has worsened since then as far as we know. He still had meniscus to be repaired before the Houston series and if we believe him and the docs there's literally none left now.

Ah then it is much different! Well still keeping positive!

I'm going to want to push to be a starter and help this team win. The goal doesn't change," Roy said Friday as the Blazers left for the offseason. "I think I definitely want to help this team get in position to win and get out of the first round."

So did you bother to read the article you linked?

I'm rooting for Roy to come back as a starter. Also, we really need to get rid of miller this offseason. Give me CP3 and Okafor for Miller, Batum and Oden.
