I just realized all 3 of them had their careers cut short due to medical problems.

when you think about, this is a pretty big reason to discount the 'trade-Dame-and-get-bad-for-high-draft-picks' plan

in successive drafts, the Blazers had a 3rd, 2nd, 6th, 1st, & 11th pick. And it took 8 years for the blazers to even win one playoff series, and when they did, only 1 of those picks was still on the team

Yeah, I honestly thought that LaMarcus would have his career cut short way earlier because everyone was so worried when that heart condition first manifest itself.
That heart condition is trivial. I had that exact same heart condition and my cardiologist, one of the best, gave me the okay after my ablation procedure to do any exercise I wanted as vigorous as I wanted and for as long as I wanted. My procedure was much more complicated than his.

I thought this was a, "players who Portland got nothing for" thread.

So, it's just an excuse?

My daughter had the same procedure at 32.

No, this is a reason to hire a GREAT front office. Roy, Durant and Aldridge (AND Z-Bo) would've made some NOISE.

My dad has similar condition, I wouldn't call it trivial. But it is definitely something that likely would have a complete recovery. If LaMarcus was 25 I think he would come back, when he's 36, probably a bench player, and has already made $200 million it also makes sense to just retire.

Sure, but a great front office can also build a contender in the middle of the draft.

Probably need a great owner or some luck to hire a great front office, unlikely we have or will get either.

I have dealt with a similar condition for the past 12 years. I’m glad you can afford to be so cavalier about it……or maybe it just wasn’t as impactful as some of your other health issues?? Must be nice to be so dismissive of the engine that keeps the lights on…..I wish I had that luxury.
