I would submit that Roy doesn't HAVE to carry a huge offensive load. Heck, Travis is playing 25mpg and shooting a .444 shots per minute. During those 25min at least, Roy doesn't have to worry about "carrying the offensive load"--and I haven't even brought up LMA, or Webster, or Blake and Miller yet. Heaven forbid Oden gets more than a shot every 5 minutes.

As the primary ball handler - Roy works hard to create for all of these guys except maybe Miller. I do not think that just scoring is the extent of offensive load.

IMHO, part of the blame for the losses and discombobulated play so far is on Roy for not understanding that this team has a bunch of weapons not named Brandon Roy. Perhaps he does and Nate's telling him otherwise. I don't know which. What I hypothesize is that if Roy went balls-to-the-wall on D like Webster's been doing for most of 5 games now, he'll still have sufficient energy to be good on offense--allowing that he might have to utilize other options than his 1-vs.-team more. (though I don't deny that that's been successful in getting some foul calls)

The following people can create for themselves on this team:

1. Miller - who has not scored the ball very well this year at all
2. Roy
3. Outlaw - but you all are going to run around like angry chicken if this happens - because Outlaw would be "selfish" and "black-hole".

Roy is the best decision maker on this team bar none. Ignoring the fact that he needs to work hard on offense even if he is not the only one that takes the shots is just wrong, imho.

Wrong in the sense that the team is lacking effort on defense? Then, no. He's not wrong. Wrong as in he, himself, is probably the biggest culprit in the team's lack of effort on defense? Yes.

That is why guys like Kobe, KG and Duncan have won championships and the rest of the league is pretty much want a be's. Those guys (and some guys on the Nuggets now) understand the defensive committment it takes to win a ring. Pretty much every player who played on the olympic teams recently got a lesson in that, and that is one reason why I was kind of bummed no Blazers went and played on that team. It is a lesson that could go a long ways with this team.

I think its more of the NATE and ROY combo....that combo allow roy to handle the ball way too much...since when is ROY a pg and if he is why the heck did we bother to bring in miller?

if this team ever wants to move past the first round we need to run the fast break....nate hates running and with roy as pg we will never run...fast breaks = easy points.

why does are team ALWAYS have to fight for its points? ADLEMAN WOULD RULE FOR THIS TEAM...if fact it looks like an Adelman team run by the wrong guy.....Nate!

The biggest thing is I just gotta be more of a playmaker down the stretch of games.

Me and Coach talked about maybe to look to get guys to knock down shots and that will open up the floor for me. Don't feel the pressure that you have to try to take every shot. You've got to get back to getting my teammates involved. I thought that was right.

My biggest thing is to continue to make plays, get that floor spread out, so that way I'm able to make some shots and get some easier baskets.

If I keep passing, they'll be ready.

The best part of that, imho:

First, we saw Roy, Miller and Blake working on lob passes to both Aldridge and Oden under McMillan's personal instruction. The big men were being fronted and were instructed to spin and seal their defender away from the basket. The pass was then thrown right next to the rim, designed to be caught for an alley oop or quick catch and power-up move. I can't say these passes found their mark with much regularity. But at least the focus is on developing that wing/post relationship and it was good to see Roy included in this group.

It's not often that you get validation within 24 hours.

It gives me some hope that Nate's trying to "Make It Better". I'll bash him when he does things I don't agree with, so I'll give him credit for working with the guards on lobbing to the bigs and talking to Roy about looking for his teammates more.
We've had some pretty decent (and innovative) offensive looks in the first quarter most of the season. Unfortunately, it tends to devolve as the game progresses.

I have nothing against Steve Blake as a person. But...The mancrush over steve blake is costing us the season so far. It's actually gotten to the point that our "coach" has been playing miller and blake at the same time. That is the worst coaching decision I've ever seen. The NBA is a business. We're essentially rewarding Blakey for his loyalty, hard work, and making a home in Portland. This is a business!!!! Miller(the best point guard we have) should start and Bayless should be his backup. There are two options here. 1) Fire mr sonic and hire a coach that knows that Miller should start and who can adjust their gameplan to the players on our roster. 2) Trade Steve Blake.
I joked about this scenario over the summer, but it has come to fruition. Nate is actually playing Miller/blake at the same time, while Bayless racks up the DNP-"C"D. Is a 15% upgrade in 3pt percentage worth compromising our season for? Because that is the only advantage Blake has over Miller. I am thankful for where mcmilun has led us, but if he can't figure this out he has to go.

Second of all, realize that the "fanboys" dominate this board...and ANY criticism of Roy will be met with hostility and complete blind\devoted defense of whatever he says\does and you will be labeled a hater....

i wouldn't say this board is dominated by "fanboys". it seems like the opposite. it appears to be dominated by people who are just waiting for the first opportunity to trash the coach or whatever player they've decided they don't like that day while panicking that the team is doomed to fail.

I agree that there is no reason to panic, as we are 5 games into an 82+ game season. My main concern is playing Miller/Blake at the same time. It's just terrible. I'm not opposed to a 3 guard lineup every so often but those two should NEVER be on the court together. Any NBA coach should know this. This is a business, not kidsports where every player has to play a certain amount of minutes.
