whats the holdup?? I hear they are trying to get roy cheap so then they can get aldridge for below is market value also. This is getting ugly. He should of been signed the max the second it was available! Someone give me 1 dam good reason why he that hasn't happened? KP IS A JOKE

You have a problem with the front office trying to save several million dollars, while still sufficiently compensating our core players? Do you really think that Roy is self-serving enough that he will absolutely insist on the max? Do you really think Roy will have to take out a summer job if his extension starts at 11-12 million instead of 14? Do you really think that if it comes down to the extension deadline, KP won't give Roy what is necessary to extend him? Do you really have this little faith in Blazer players and/or management?

I'm guessing (sadly) that the answer to all those questions is yes.

The point is Roy shouldn't have to demand anything!!!! In three years in the league he's been R.O.Y. and a two time allstar. What more does he need to do??? Oh yeah he single handedly resurrected this team that needed a new image in a city that was fed up with bad press, and sagging ticket sales.

If these tactics are being done to low ball LA in the long run, than let me interject a counterpoint; pissing off your two best players is not a savy move, knowing they share the same agent. Ya think if ROY isn't happy it wont translate into the locker room not being happy? If they aren't willing to max a player of ROYS caliber what does that say to RUDY, OUTLAW, BLAKE, ODEN and the rest of the team? The trickle down of this hardball mentality could kill the teams chemistry in one fell swoop. Make no mistake about it!

So all this BS Kevin has talked about in building a franchise with the right kind of young classy players here hangs in the balance of this negotiation. How can it not when dealing with your hub player?

Roy is the glue to this team!!!!!!

KP should be replaced before Roy is offended! That simple!

I am amazed! A person on here that knows what they are talking about. Everyone else in here just worships KP no matter what he does. Its pathetic. I guess fans just are so crazy about there team they can't actually see clearly whats going on.

If your star player feels he got shafted on a no brainer deal it will translate into ill will in some form. KP is playing with massive fire here! ROY is the Blazers, as he goes does this team! KP is sending a terrible messege to the whole team and any free agent that might want to come here!

Name me another player in the league that has done more for a teams whole concept than B ROY? This city, the national press, the NBA as a whole wrote this city off three years ago as the JAILBLAZERS. TRUE? Now they are a playoff team that many think will be a championship contender in two years.

That is all ROY! This conversation shouldn't even be happening!

KP might be buying his own press to much, and I tend to think he believes he's the real star in Portland.

Well, the reports leaking out are that the Vulcan's are the ones really in charge of the Roy/Aldridge contract negotiations.

In a way that makes sense. KP's legacy is wrapped around Roy and Aldridge. He would be prone to be pretty damn charmin soft in the negotiations.

So, you can bitch about KP if you like. Just be aware that your rage is likely misplaced. Buck stops with the owner. Maybe bitch about Paul Allen if it makes you feel better.

As for your other comments, you say Roy "single-handedly ...", then you say he is "the glue". Which is it?

You ask what kind of message it sends to the other players to be firm in negotiations with Roy (and Aldridge), as opposed to just giving them everything. Doesn't it seem obvious? The message is, we are not going to OVERPAY just to do it. The team wants to keep as many of these players as they can. They can't keep these other guys if Roy, LaMarcus and Oden ALL get full max deals.

Giving in right away to Roy and Aldridge would have sent this message to Rudy, Batum, Bayless, etc., "start preparing to move to another team, because the Blazers won't be able to pay if you turn out to be a better than average player."

San Antonio put the screws to Ginobili and Parker in their negotiations - and did not give them the max. They asked Duncan to take less then the maximum they could have paid him on his extension. Not one player on the Spurs is making the absolute most per year the CBA allows for them. Are they a bullshit franchise for doing these things? Was it wrong of them to ask each of the big three to take less than they could and what they originally wanted so the team could keep all three of them and still have a little left over to spend on role players?

Use your brains people.

Not true at all. The "Jail Blazers" tag is so, like, 1999. And I don't think that anyone really thought the city was the Jail Blazers, even if there remained some ignorant people that still associated it with the team.

Three years ago we were just a pathetically bad team with nice guys who almost never got in trouble.

Roy didn't clean it up. All he's done is play basketball... which is what he's been paid to do, so that works out nicely.

True. Prior to Roy, they were the "FAIL Blazers", Telfair's penchant for carrying weapons on the team plane aside. Oh, and Qyntel Woods with the dogs, Woods showing up stoned to appearances, ZBo with the alleged rape, Darius Miles using racial slurs at Cheeks, etc. etc.

A class organization! ;)

A slur is a disparaging or insulting remark. One does not have to be of a different race than the intended, for it to count as a racial slur.
