Rubick's Cube

Anyone mess with this? I was trying to fix one of my friends cube today and found it pretty difficult. It's probably very logical or whatever, but it's a challenge for me, especially since I'm terrible at math.

Is anyone actually good at it? I heard people do this blindfolded now.

my cousin bought one and after 2 weeks he perfected it, i shuffled it for 30 min and he did it in about 2 min

back in the 80's Rubiks Cubes were HUGE.
You not only had Rubik's cubes, you had Rubiks Cube keychains and different shaped rubik's cubes, such as with 8 sides or cylinder shaped ones. they were a phenomenon.

My uncle finished one a bunch of times (of course, he did go to Harvard also...)

 

[Really Lost One]

I've never really solved a Rubix Cube, but I can do one side with extreme ease. The trick is to first start off by making a cross, or a "T" figure with the color you're planning on solving. Then you go on from there. With practice, it becomes an ease.
Of course this is only one side though....

My Calculus teacher in Grade 12 showed us how to solve a Rubiks cube. There's like a certain pattern that you repeat over and over again (something to do with the rotations), but I never really followed it. A few kids in my class learned how to do it from him, and he could actually solve it in 2 or 3 minutes.

I know someone who can solve it under 2 minutes. All he does is follow a special pattern

A Rubix cube trend has started at my school, lots of kids fiddle with them in class though I have no interest in them. The final for my school's honors calculus class is just solving a rubix cube, I thought that was where it started but I guess it was in the Pursuit of Happiness? Maybe thats where it came from. A kid in my algebra 2/trig class can solve them in a minute and ten seconds pretty much every time, its just pattern recognition and repetition, you don't have to be a genius to solve them.

Lol, i know, after that movie i wanted to get one and try to do it too. They shoulda sold them outside the movie theater, probably good business.

These have gotten pretty big in my school. I know plenty of kids who could do it in under a minute. I'm thinking of getting one myself, but it will take me forever.

Yes quite robotic.

That displays a "Blind"-Problem-Solving-"Chemist" type of approach. If one can solve a rubix cube, they aren't displaying any deep insight or "Physicist"-style comprehension.

I saw a guy on CNN who actually could solve them blindfolded. He would study the cube for about 30 seconds then put the blindfold on, he from there was able to solve it in under a minute i think.

I guess the key is supposed to be thinking of them as pieces attached to a cube instead of just trying to move the colored squares around.

Theres also guys who can do them with one hand.

My friend claimed to finish one, but I found out all he did was take off the colored stickers and rearranged them to make it work.

This guy at MIST (muslim interscholastic tournament) solved it in 50 seconds while everyone did a countdown for him. It was badass.
