I dont know if people saw this quote already but I just saw it.

Rudy on Rubio: "He's a very good player, but I don't know if he is prepared to play in the NBA," said Fernandez. "I think he's a good player, but this is a big jump for him."

i doubt anyone really expects rubio to come in and contribute a lot right away.

When people call him a cross between Magic Johnson and Pistol Pete, then I imagine people do think he will contribute right away.

Of course, those people are very, very deluded.

Don't take my name in vain.

And who said I expect him to contribute right away? Just because he's really good and will one day be great doesn't mean he's not currently 19.

Of course, he certainly "contributed right away" for the Spanish Olympic team, where he clearly outplayed Calderon. But he won't be consistent, and besides, Nate would probably play him very few minutes even if he WAS Magic Johnson crossed with Pistol Pete.

(He's actually a better defender than either. But that's not saying much.)

Has anyone else been shocked that Rubio was born merely a couple months before 1991 arrived?

Fernandez said that he plans to speak with Rubio in person now that Portland's season is over, and he has returned to their native country of Spain.

"Then I can explain everything. He's excited to play in the NBA for sure, because for everybody it is a dream to play in the best league in the world," Fernandez continued.

What Rudy will explain: FOR GOD'S SAKE, STEER CLEAR OF MEMPHIS AND OKLAHOMA CITY!

What Rudy means: "DON'T DRAFT HIM MEMPHIS AND OKLAHOMA CITY!"

I'll be surprised if Rubio lives up to the hype. I think Rudy is spot on. Guys come up with Rubio's skill set frequently. The great ones are the ones that develop consistent and varied offense to go with the passing and quickness, otherwise they're very mediocre.

Rubio should sabotage himself so he will fall to Portland.

Rubio, a mere shadow of Sergio in both talent and experience, would never play significant minutes here under Nate McMillan.

Rudy, who has played extensively with both, obviously rates Sergio much higher.

That's actually pretty crazy. Makes me feel old despite being a few years away from 30.

I don't think there's any evidence that any of this is at all accurate.

KP told Rudy to say these things. So we can trade up to get him. Pritchslapped!

You know: I want us to get Rubio - BAD - but has anyone ever heard Pritchard say anything to indicate the Blazers are remotely interested in him? (Of course that would be easy to interpret as meaning that he really DOES want Rubio...)

Nate McMillan actually coached against him in the Olympics. Are there any Nate quotes on Rubio?

it does make me feel old, but it's not as bad as when I found out that I was older than Greg Oden. Talk about weird...

I'd be surprised too. So much bs. Some act as if Rubio were equivalent to Gary Payton when he came in the NBA. The Blazers don't need Rubio. If Gary Payton was coming in as a rookie or a solid vet, thats what the Blazers need.

Found a copy of the complete US vs. Spain Olympics final. Get your Rubio vs. NBA players fix here.

(You may have to download Silverlight - do it, the quality is amazing.)

(Edit: the link didn't work at all, now it's the USA v. Argentina Semi, but you can get Spain by clicking on "Select channel" on the right and selecting Basketball and it's listed.)
