Rudy Makes The Dunk Contest!

Fernandez initially said he would like to bring teammate and countryman Sergio Rodriguez to the event to throw passes, but Rodriguez at the time said he would decline in favor of vacationing. However, teammate Brandon Roy - who should be a shoo-in for the All-Star reserves - said if he is selected to the team he would assist Fernandez in the competition.
Can Roy even pass? I'd like to see that. :devilwink:

Seriously, I'm worried Rudy is going to be embarrassed out there. Just being able to sky and stuff the ball on a dead run isn't going to get it done.

Wow, all this concern about Rudy being an embarrassment. I hope he's not taking it as seriously as some people seem to be. I think it will be fun to see him out there, I hope he'll bring some creativity. Do I think he has a chance? Not really, but just having the exposure for the Blazers is great.

I do think he'll be really entertaining in the rookie/soph game though.

I don't care if he gets embarrassed, as long as he doesn't get injured.

I'm no fan of the all-star stuff - waste of a perfectly good week that could be used to play real games.

Bayless competes with Outlaw in terms of raw dunking ability.

Next year, it's Bayless time in the dunk contest.

I was in Vegas watching that game live at the Mirage sport book with about 100 NBA fans. When Rudy dunked that ball, I literally jumped out of my leather chair. I was sitting by some guys from New York who I was talking with, they asked what was I doing, and I said I live in Portland and am a Blazer fan first and foremost.

What a great memory from a great experience.

Rudy doesn't attempt many dunks in a game, so maybe he has something up his sleeve. I remember when many of us thought Roy's hops weren't that great. He's shown us that he definitely has them, so maybe Rudy is the same way.

People couldn't read Roy's results from the NBA pre-draft camp? :dunno:

To be honest I think that Joe Alexander with his height and insane vertical would be much better to have in the dunk contest. Don't get me wrong, I love seeing Rudy on either end of the alley-oop, but the dunk contest is a little bit different.

I think he will finish last. Would be much better in the 3-point contest (and should make that).

Heres are some attempted dunks when we blew out Sacramento at home. Half dunk attempts are at the 49 sec mark of the clip. Second is at the 1:30 min mark.

Couldn't he just re-create the dunk on Superman!

While I think that Rudy's pretty athletic and can really soar, I'm not sure he'll have the creativity to be competitive.

However, I do have to admit that I voted for him several times. When's the last time a Blazer made it? Given that, I still think that Alexander would have been the better option.

That's great for Rudy. I wish LeBron and Kobe would do it together one year.

If Rudy really wanted to win the dunk contest, what he would do, is when it came time to dunk, he would surprise everybody by going over to his competition, Howard, and get him to stand in front of the hoop with his superman cape on, and then fly in and facialize him. Now that, would get the audience going. :devilwink:

I would have voted for Alexander, then westbrook, then Rudy. I don't think he has the same abilities that we usually see in the dunk contest. This is not a knock on Rudy, just that there aren't very many NBA players who have what it takes to be a big time dunk contestant and do it well.

Rudy should be in the 3 point contest instead!

Maybe he can have his sister Marta as his assistant in the contest? She's also a pro basketball player. And easy on the eyes.

Im gonna get shit for this arent I?

I wonder what Rudy's got planned. He said it was a surprise. Maybe he'll re-enact his dunk over Dwight or use it as some type of gimmick.

No, that is Sidney Spencer.

Didn't see this posted anywhere, but it was on Blazer's Edge. He waived him off at the end, saying "No camera, no camera." This could be interesting:

Here is Orlando Sanchez pulling the rainbow kick dunk. The rumor is that Rudy is going to make one of those with a 180.
