Dude. :tsktsk:

-He did consider the idea of being traded from Portland or returning to Europe because he wants to play minutes.
-He did say adding Turkoglu would create a logjam (6 players for 2 positions).
-Thinks he showed enough last year to warrant a more important role next year. (I agree with this).
-Regardless of where he will play next season, he will participate in the Eurobasket tournament this summer.

I suppose his concerns with the possible addition of Turk were legit, but still, complaining this openly to the media about minutes? Yuck. I hate that. I wonder how this situation would have played out if Hedo didn't balk on our offer.

Strike one, Rudy.

rudy could barely handle what he got last year....

If he keeps this up, all of the Rudy love around here will come crashing down. Yes, Rudy did mention several times how hard all the PT was on him. And all he did was stand around and jack up 3pt shots. Rudy did NOT play that great last season. In fact, if we see a repeat performance next year, I wouldn't mind seeing him traded. 3pt specialists are not that hard to come by.

And didn't he ever consider the fact that if we did acquire Turkoglu, that be getting rid of one of our other SFs?

But by all means Rudy, next season, take a bigger role in the offense. I'd like to see you make more than 2 assists per game, and hit more than 12% of your shots from inside the arch.

Rudy is a bit like Hedo in that he can really create for both himself and others. I like the idea of giving him the ball more and letting him create.

if you ask Mark Madsen if he would like to play more the dude would say yes, not a big deal.

So we agree, let's turn on Rudy! He is evil!!

Did you see the first point:

lol jesus, not more of this..

Tough to do when you're under contract and FIBA honors NBA contracts.

So what? He wants to play and he sacrificed a great deal to come to Portland in the first place. I got no problem with anything Rudy has said. He's a clutch player and deserves as many minutes as he can handle.

So, the fact that he's already thinking about being traded or going back to Europe(assuming that translation is accurate) is NOT a good sign. Is he going to "demand a trade", like so many other whinny little assholes in the NBA. He got 26 minutes as rookie and had a hard time dealing with that physically. He gets to play a lot more in the NBA than he would in Europe, so what the hell is he complaining about.

This please, with a side of a Rudy and Roy back court.

He also said that he wants to play and not sit, just like every other NBA player. Not a big deal, and we need to move on.

I don't like hearing players bitch about minutes, but I do think that he deserves more time on the court.

I think the most interesting thing from that interview is that he's expecting a larger role. If we go into next season with the same roster, I don't see him getting his 26 minutes with Webster coming back and Batum improving. Manu Ginobili was satisfied with coming off the bench and averaging 27 minutes per game throughout his career, but I don't think Rudy would be okay with that. Especially when you consider that he won't be one of our "big three."

Which is why he should share point w/bayless :)

Nice logic there. That's like if someone says, "I love my mother and I want to bang my sister"....and saying that's not a big deal, because everyone loves their mother.

I watched Rudy play with DKV Juventut and with Spain. The way we used him was not how he seems to play best. Rudy isn't Martell; while he can be a spot-up 3 point shooter, that's not his highest and best use. Rudy is a playmaker. He can handle the ball, is a good passer and can drive to the hoop or stop and pop. He moves great without the ball and is terrific about faking one way and cutting to the hoop backdoor.

I hope Nate watches more of Rudy playing international ball and figures out how to better use him next season.

Ironic post.

Two thoughts.

1) Isn't this the same interview from last week? Nothing new, right?

2) Maybe this is why Portland's not focusing on bringing in a guard. Maybe the plan is to start Rudy.

I agree with the comment that Nate needs to figure out how to use Rudy better. As for the comment "And all he did was stand around and jack up 3pt shots", I can only say that in the games I saw Rudy was constantly moving and I would say that he worked harder than anyone else on the team when on offense.

Great observation. Portland ran a set every game that would run Rudy of a double screen on one block and a single screen on the other. Yes, we could have ran more plays with Rudy taking the ball to the hoop, but to say all he did was stand in the corner would be false. Even if that is all he did, it would be hard to fault the coaching staff because they put him in a position to hit more 3's than any rookie has in the history of the NBA

Nate used Rudy a lot like he did with Martell. Nate set up those plays where Rudy would run through 2-3 screens to get open for a 3 just like he did with Webster.

Rudy can do that, but he can do more imo.

Since it appears our fantastic GM will once again do jack shit to add a ppiece to the roster, I hope the rotation looks like this. No way this happens because of our coaches loyalties, but a lineup of

Rudy - 12/Bayless - 22/Blake - 14
Roy - 30/ Rudy - 12/Bayless - 6
Batum - 25/Roy - 6/Rudy - 6/Outlaw - 11
Aldridge - 30/Outlaw - 16/Joel - 2
Oden - 32/Joel - 10/Aldridge - 6

I don't like breaking it down this way because I think our team is flexable enough that a lot of people can play multiple possitions, but since we probably won't win a title anyway, why not start trying to find out if Rudy or Bayless can handle that possition for when we might be able to make a run?

Finally in the NBA, Petrovic spent little more than a year in Portland before his frustration at a lack of playing time led him to demand a trade. He wound up in New Jersey, where he became a great scorer and helped transform the Nets into a playoff team.

yeah....about history repeating itself......

As long as Nate is in charge, we will have trouble keeping creative players happy. It's because Nate abhors creative-thinking players who don't need someone instructing their every move like a babysitter.

Sergio, Travis, Rudy, soon it will be Greg.

I wouldn't be surprised if that happens and quite frankly, neither should anybody else. Don't forget that he plays the same position as Roy. So unless you want to trade away Roy so Rudy stays to get his PT then start getting used to the fact that Rudy might not be here long term. But I also think that he has shown himself to be a part of the regular rotation, so if he can live with being 6th man, he'll be here for a while I hope.
