Rudy to Boston...AGAIN

Yeah, I really don't see anything on that team that would be available that we would want.

I would love to have a future first round pick from this team. It could be a very nice pick.

I'm w/ the Duck. Considering the "value" of what we're giving away, and the slipping-celts, it's a good deal.

Wouldn't people be blaming Cho if Rudy doesn't return to P-town and we passed on a first rounder - that trading value too.

Considering that we heard about this potential trade partner before and we didnt pull the trigger. And now we are hearing about it again, which usually means that the deal is dead ... Im not seeing this happen.

exactly... Portland doesn't have a current need to fill. I'm sure that Celts management is well aware of how valuable a 2013 (or so) 1st could be, but Rudy would seem a good fit off the ball from Rondo. Prior to the back issue he suffered from last season, a mid to low lotto pick for RF would have seemed about right. If he's right dude can play, which is why Cho shouldn't just give him away. A future pick (high lottery protected) or right to swap picks spanning seasons would seem the right sort of deal to hold out for

I'm not even really sure what Rich Cho (and maybe more importantly, Paul Allen) is really looking for in a Rudy deal? Something tells me that they're sitting on deals for two reasons 1) to show other teams that they aren't operating from a position of weakness and that they really will sit on him and his rights instead of trading him away for peanuts and 2) to show Rudy and his agent(s) that they aren't operating from a position of weakness and him acting unprofessionally is not only going to cost him money in fines for blabbing about his desire to be released, but that he's looking down the barrel of missing up to two prime years of his career if he chooses to hold out.

Something tells me we're going to end up with a late first round pick for him (at best) which is no different than what we could have gotten a couple of weeks ago, but there's an attempt being made here by Allen and Cho to try and control the situation -- which doesn't seem to be working so far.

Considering Rudy was a late first round pick, it doesn't seem horrible to get that. Andy Miller could use a good punch to the cock though.

I think (and like everyone else I'm speculating) that Cho et al don't want to essentially give in to blackmail. Had Rudy quietly and privately talked to them they might have said OK we'll try for a trade you and we like but by going public he's essentially saying he is going to dictate to the team.

A lottery-protected first seems like a good trade for Portland. If Boston covets Rudy to that level, I don't see why MillerCho wouldn't do that deal immediately.

because Paul Allen can simply buy that pick for the change in his couch.

You sure about that? Boston isn't exactly cash-strapped, and besides, I don't think a better deal would be available for Rudy. Actually, I don't know why Boston would give up a first, but in a hypothetical situation where they are offering a first, it seems like good value.

Also, if Paul wants to buy another first-round pick from another team, then take a first for Rudy, buy another, and use their own pick to try and move up in a draft.

The more 1sts the better, IMO, at least in terms of trying to package them in a trade for either a pick or an established player.

What kind of pick do you see Portland getting from Boston? I only see mid to late 20's with them and that really isn't all that exciting.

I'd take a late-20 pick over some dud of a player on a rookie contract. Plus, assuming Portland will be in the 20s with their pick as well, try packaging both picks to move up, use one of those picks to buy another pick in a later draft, or use one of those picks in a trade for an established player.

That is a lot of if's though. There is no guarantee anybody wants any of those picks and we could wind up with two rookies with guaranteed deals who both suck. Granted the addition from subtraction would be nice

Yeah I get the impression they know that they are not going to get anything they really want, so
they could care less when it happens A late first round pick is just not a big enough incentive anymore.
They are probably delaying it as much as possible in the very very small possibility that a larger deal occurs that they could use Rudy as part of the deal.
Again I just don't think they see any urgency. They just won't get much value for him. And they have a full roster as it is.

Draft another Euro or two and keep them overseas if MillCho doesn't want another guaranteed contract. Or, simply renounce the rights to the drafted player if the pick ends up worthless. I'd take that risk over (A) keeping Rudy, or (B) getting a very limited player such as Avery Bradley, who can't shoot, can't pass, and is terrible from the FT line.

Are you sure it's not working? I see several things to show the contrary. They haven't taken a bad deal. If they weren't in control of the situation, they would have taken a bad deal. I see it as working as intended, with one unhappy camper who doesn't like how its going for him. Considering this is Cho's first move, he will also want to show he is in charge and won't be bullied by some stupid agent. This will define his career going forward. Is he going to be a GM who runs the show, or is he going to be a GM who is bullied. I am willing to bet he will set an example, and run the Rudy situation how he wants to, on his schedule.

Once again, I want our team to be better next this season. Trading him for a first round pic will not accomplish this. Rather have him sulk and help us from time to time then give up on him.

Not me, I want Rudy burned at the Stake.

We never gave Bonzi, Damon, or Sheed a second chance from their criminal antics, why should be give someone who complains from being frustrated a chance? That is an unforgivable offense.

The major difference here is that Bonzi, Damon, and Sheed all wanted to play here, whereas Rudy...uh, not so much.

+1

I don't want to trade him for a chair or a piece of gum.

I have little faith in Cho to make a good deal. Prove me wrong!

All Parties have responsibility, I believe Portlanders demonized him to the point of no return.

Maybe if we gave him a second chance after the playoff's flounder, he would want to come back.

I don't see any big rush to dump Rudy for a draft pick. I think that option is always available. I'd rather see Cho hold onto him into the season and see if a better offer comes along, perhaps when some team loses a player to injury and needs a replacement, or as part of a trade deadline deal involving other players. If Rudy comes to camp, great. Perhaps he will be willing to bust his butt to try to repair his trade value. If he holds out, he doesn't cost the Blazers anything.

Yes, it's the fans' fault that Rudy doesn't want to play in Portland.

The fans cheered him until he turned on the team. You turn on the team, you have turned on the fans. They even cheered him through some of those dreadful playoff performances, and through several other rumored "Rudy Unhappy" stuff that cropped up in the past. The fans, and the team have gone beyond duty in supporting this guy. What really needs to happen is for Rudy to take responsiblity for his poor play and work on his game. Right now if it anybody else's fault but his in his mind. When he realizes the problem is him, he will move forward. Rudy has shot about 20% since he came back from injury, in a lot of games, with a lot of wide open looks. Losers make excuses. Winners find a way to get it done.

I'm coming around to this line of thinking. We should be able to get a draft pick for him any time. I'm also in favor of teaching a player under contract who's in charge.
