Rudy to go under 'procedure' for leg pain

6 players on the shelf: Mills, Pendergraph, Outlaw, Rudy, Batum, Oden.

What's the over/under that any of those guys will be contributing members of the Blazers on December 1st 2010?

I'll say 3, and take the under.

Lets give a big ol thanks to Trevor Ariza

Gerard Darnes, one of the agents who represents Fernandez, said Monday in New York that Fernandez has experienced back pain ever since last March, when he was fouled from behind on a fast break by Trevor Ariza, then of the Lakers.

Fernandez landed hard on his back and was taken off the court in a neck brace and on a stretcher. He missed the next two games, then sat out nearly all of the preseason this fall because of back spasms.

Darnes said he has never eluded the pain, which was aggravated last week in practice when Fernandez was elbowed in the back while coming off a pick-and-roll. As late as last Friday, however, Fernandez was practicing, going as far as to workout with the first unit the day before Saturday's game against Houston.

It was before the Rockets game that Fernandez reported unbearable pain, particularly his sciatic nerve, which caused pain to shoot down his right leg.

Really?

Mills and Pendergraph are long shots, and there is a very real possibility that Rudy will be traded and/or Outlaw will be allowed to walk.

Even at my most optimistic (ie Oden and Batum both recover) that is still only 2.

I'm a lot less sure that Rudy will be traded and Outlaw will be given his walking papers. Regarding Outlaw, what is the team's motivation to let him go? They'll be over the cap, so his salary savings can't be reapportioned. He can be re-signed with Bird rights, so he doesn't eliminate the team's MLE. It would just be a straight personnel loss. Unless he's asking for a crazy contract, I assume Portland re-signs him because they don't get anything if he walks and they're a better team with him on the bench than without him.

I think Oden and Batum are both likely to be in uniform and playing a year from now, and Fernandez and Outlaw are both still likely to be with the team. Whatever long-shot chances I give Rudy or Outlaw being gone are made up for by the long-shot chances that Pendergraph or Mills is contributing.

That's why I said over.

Fair enough.

holy crap guys.....

I'm starting to get get it now why soldiers frequently develop very dark and twisted senses of humor in in warzones. If you don't find a way to laugh, you're just going to end up in the loony bin.

Also happens when you work at UPS for more then two years...

Re: Rudy to go under 'procedure' for leg injury

Maybe this deserves its own thread, and maybe it's just unnecessary built out of frustration. Seems odd that there's some teams that ALWAYS seem to have freak injuries, or a lot of injuries that derail seasons, careers, etc. The Clippers come to mind. As do the Blazers. Can it really be dumb luck? Really? I dunno how our training and weight staff could do something differently, I dunno what they are doing. It's probably not a fair criticism. Maybe it is the fault of KP for drafting injury prone players? I dunno. But how many happen before you wonder if there is a different training method for your guys that might work better? Previously, I would have assumed most teams are about the same in what they do. But you constantly hear about Phoenix's medical staff, and I dunno if they're doping or what, but everyone that plays there seems to love them, and the work they do, whatever it is. We tend to have nagging this after fluke that after freak something. Fuck. Sorry. Just annoyed at this.
I've been wondering if it's the Blazer's organization's astrological chart. Who freaking knows. If anyone can provide me by pm with the time of day of the creation of the Blazer's as an entity I could give ya'll that angle. Day isn't good enough, I need time of day.
