Seriously, he has reduced his game to nothing but a three-point shooter. He no longer slashes to the hoop. He doesn't drive and dish. He won't even think about taking an open 17-footer, preferring instead to retreat back behind the line. Add to that the fact that half of his attempts tonight were taken while falling away needlessly instead of squaring up and you have another bad game from Mr. Fernandez. Where's the agressiveness we saw earlier in the year, ala the Miami game?
 
He's probably trying to open up the middle by hitting three's, something Nate and KP stressed was something this team lacked last season. It makes it easier for the bigs to get the ball occasionally. The Spanish Armada knows where they should be and where the ball should go.

At the same time, maybe now he is learning what it is like to be scouted in the NBA. Think about it.

When was the last time he was able to get a back door alley oop? Hmmm why would that be...

What about the double screen...not working so well lately is it... Hmmm why would that be...

You see what I am saying. His go to moves have been being scouted. Pro scouts probably notice a lot more than I do. Nuances. Tendencies.

Once players know what to expect, you have to elevate your game.

He looks a lot less confident out there lately. I'd like to see him at least try to get past a defender on the wing rather than jack up fade-away 3's.
 
he has to have something in his game other than a long range shot falling away from the basket.
 
He's becoming increasingly one or two dimensional as a player. We don't really have a backup SG on this team if Rudy is playing like this.
 
You have to remember he is still hurt too. His slashing game seems limited since that injury.

Come on. Even with the lack of "all-roundedness" in his game, I implore you to find a better backup SG in the league.

If all he's doing is launching 3 pointers...then we can have JJ Reddick do the same thing. But I guess since he's taking them off balance it makes him streetz? Rudy needs to be more than just a 3-point threat. He needs to play more like B-Roy in order for him to be a great player in the league, not just an "exciting young player".

Manu, Rip, and Terry are the best SGs on their respective teams. They are not "backups" in the sense that they are coming off the bench as a result of better players ahead of them.

Barbosa, OK, but I think Rudy is more effective and a better player than him.

Then Iverson and Roger Mason would be the backups on the Spurs and Pistons. Still better? I think Mason is, probably still Iverson too

Sure, but we all know what he can do when healthy. Let him acclimate to defenses and Nate. Even so, I don't think there is a more ideal backup to Roy in the league.

In the future or right now? If the former I can see a case being made, if the latter fugedaboutit ... not even close.

Sure, but right now he's just chucking 3's up. Not something we need when our starting SG is injured and not playing well.

Rudy can't create off the dribble very well, he can drive to the lane occasionally, but his body is so thin he can't take a steady diet of those, or he'll be visiting a chiropractor and and orthopedic surgeon in no time.

His three point shooting is a valuable skill, because when it's dropping it really helps space the floor, but Rudy needs to work on his body and adding some other skills to his game or he's never going to be much more than a role-player, spot up shooter.

so are you saying that he's been unhealthy all season? back in november he took 133 shots. 84 were 3s. the difference was back then he was hitting something like 43% of them so it didn't seem as bad.

Rudy: 11pts, 2.1asts, 3.1rebs, 43% FG, 39% from 3, 16.25 PER
LB: 12.5pts, 1.8asts, 2.3rebs, 45% FG, 34% from 3, 17.5 PER

There's not much difference stats wise, but when you consider the intangible stuff like defense, passing, or BBIQ, I'll take Rudy easily over Barbosa now.

Barbosa can get to the rim one-on-one. Rudy can't. That alone gives him the edge right now.

Not at all. He was recently injured and had to miss a game. He has looked a bit slow on both ends of the floor since returning (much like Roy, in that respect).
