Re: Ruffin to Portland

It doesn't HAVE to be crap. For instance, our 2.9 exception could get us Joe Alexander added to the RJeff trade.

Or it can just be sweetener for Milwaukee. Right?

It doesn't have to be, but if it IS crap, it's that much more appealing. Like, suppose Portland were to go back to Charlotte or Washington and offer an added $2.5-3 million of instant savings in a deal for Wallace or Butler. That might tip the balance.

Re: Ruffin to Portland

The only reason why we would trade for the exception is for another trade before the deadline, otherwise we would have just held onto Ike. The beauty of the trade exception is that it's money off their cap, but no player sitting on their bench. It saves more money than if they had straight up traded for Ike.

The Blazers will save close to $2m by making this deal. I think that would be enough reason to move Ike, given how little he's played this year.

I hope that another deal is coming, but at this point I would be more surprised than I was this time yesterday.

Re: Ruffin to Portland

You have to have a player in that spot. So even though RLEC and Outlaw for RJeff and Alexander works

MIL may balk at that. But we can say that we'll take charlie bell with Rjeff, for TO and RLEC, and then do 2 2nds and our TE for Joe Alexander if they think he's not going to work

Totally disagree, Nate. Ike is nothing for us after the deadline except 3M in cap space.

Right now, we have 3M in cap space from him PLUS a 3M exception that can be used today, at the draft, or at next trade deadline. the 3M TE we got from NYK for Zach ended up getting us Rudy. :dunno:

Really? I don't think the diminished time reduces the odds. Once it got into the last day or two, I think a deadline deal (one that happens in the final hours) became the most likely occurrence. If anything, maneuvering for this trade exception slightly increased the odds of a significant deal in my mind. I agree that the cash savings are enough reason to do the Diogu deal...but it still adds one more weapon to KP's arsenal in trying to strike a deal.

well, not really. like ed o has said, if portland was to make no more moves they would save some money by doing this. and saving money isn't ever a bad thing. and even if portland was to not make a trade before the deadline, they still have the trade exception until a year from now, so that would cover the draft, the offseason, and all the way until next deadline.

I think it's psychological for me. Trying to prepare for the worst (no deal; I doubt KP makes a BAD deal) and be pleasantly surprised by anything more :)

I want to get something for Frye. I want value for RLEC. Just I don't want to be too disappointed if we don't.

Re: Ruffin to Portland

Yeah, he got hosed here.

I don't know about you, but I watched Ike before every game hoist rainbow three pointers from the corner during shot around.

It sure didn't look to me like a guy that cared one way or the other if he played or not. Hell, all he had to do here was not suck and he would have played. They tried giving him minutes a few times and he fell flat on his face.

Yeah, I understand that. ;) I've been comforting myself with thoughts of going after Childress or Sessions in order to prepare myself for the deadline passing uneventfully.

Still reloading this forum every few minutes or so, though!

Re: Ruffin to Portland

argh there aren'teven any good free agents to go after this summer anyways!

Sessions and Childress spring to mind.

Beyond that we can make lopsided trades or even trade nothing but a second rounder for an established player (like Denver dumping Camby on the Clips last year).

If nothing else happens by noon tomorrow it's not the end of the world (don't tell MIXUM).

Only every few minutes? Slacker...

Re: Ruffin to Portland

Any chance we can get Gooden's epic beard in the deal? There is no playoffs without the beard, I tell ya.

Re: Ruffin to Portland

Well Canzano just off the phone with KP according to 95.5, so we'll see what they have to say.

Gotta pretend to work once in a while. Either slack at work or here...my solution: slack in both places. ;)

Ruffin............

I think he is the type of player that can take our team to the next level!

Re: Ruffin............

Wow you are right... he hasn't missed a shot all year.

Re: Ruffin............

He may very well be... with that TE he gives us. Your use is now over and done with, Michael.

If someone told me we would have 8 pages on a thread dedicated to Michael Ruffin at the start of the day I would've said you were crazy. The day is just getting started, too.
