I'd do this deal in a second. I hope his "source close to situation" isn't attending fantasy camps with Billy Ray bates in Manilla.

so wait, are you telling me that a trade suggestion that included Portland fleecing another team, wouldn't work under current CBA rules AND doesn't cost Portland a starter, was written by some idiot who probably has no idea how to use the ESPN trade machine!?

Well this ruins my "Welcome to Portland, Asik!" banner I had planned.

Sorry :(

The rumor makes sense though.... Leonard just suddenly getting PT out of nowhere?

I just don't see how Claver/Leonard/future pick is enough for Asik. Sure seems like a lot less than they were looking for.

It also says "or 2016" for the draft pick.

well Morey has already seen that what he wants and what he can get are vastly different - reality is setting in and the longer he waits the lower Asik's value gets given that he gets paid 15 mil next year. And lastly how bad is his knee injury? that lowers value as well

It might not be a legitimate offer, but the basis of the trade is fare IMO. Claver is a quality Euro player. He is a role player that could fit in really well with Harden and Howard. Leonard is still a work in progress, but some time with the Dream could speed up his development. Throw in some other pieces with short term contracts to make it work and it is not a bad trade for an injured center with no offense skills and a 15 million dollar balloon payment.

I'm actually not sure if I'd want to do this trade if we have to give up our next draft pick. Look how screwed the NY teams have been with draft picks, its can really backfire in 3 years. If Asik is healthy yes I'd do the deal but for an injured big man with bad knees, chemistry problems, and only one solid year in his career? I'd be very careful.

I highly doubt the Rockets trade him to a western conference team. Now that its after Dec 20th they don't have to worry about him being re-traded from east to the west this year either. The Rockets think they can contend this year so I bet he ends up on the Celtics, Bobcats, Nets, Hawks type of team.

This trade really scares me. Lopez is playing great and says he is having the most fun he's ever had. Do we really want to take a chance of screwing that up?

I think the injury is a huge concern, if we are trading him for key players. This type of deal is a "house money" type deal.

Probably not going to happen because Houston doesn't want Asik to solidify the defense of this ball club. It would only hurt their chances of contention.

I think the flip side of this is do we really want to screw things up by not having depth if Lopez goes down for any significant time.
Or is Joel and Meyers enough?

Could be worse: we could have Kahn as our GM, and he could be proposing this very trade.

I agree, don't think Asik will be traded here, I still want Hawes

I would love Varejao as well. I think he's a better 4/5 player. He's got injury concerns as well. I just like his defense and rebounding better and I believe he would be more open to being our 6th man than Hawes.

Could the Blazers offer a 1st round pick in a draft prior to 2017, because the pick we owe to the bobcats is not unprotected until 2016. So it's technically spoken for until then Bobcats actually get it.

Players of Asik's calibur have been given up for jelly beans before, but it seems odd that Houston would deal him to a rival for 3rd stringers....

I've been wondering if the Blazers can't just call up Charlotte and tell them the pick is theirs next season. making their 2016 available right now. It would allow Charlotte to use the pick however they wanted right now, and everyone wins.

"...a wild card team in the increasingly completed sweepstakes for Asik."

<snicker>

I share the concern of others about messing with our chemistry.

Also, wouldn't the Nyets and their win now mode be the most obvious place for Asik?

Andy V works great as well

Leonard, Claver and Barton plus cash would probably work but is Asik worth that when you could get a defensive minded big like Jason Collins who is unsigned for the vets minimum and assign Claver to the D league.

No, it wouldn't.
