Rumor Rumor Thread pre-draft

Ford: Top heavy, drops off a cliff after #19.

Which gives me hope, because Chad Ford is usually wrong about most things.
(Apart from anything: there probably aren't 19 good players in any draft, but the chance that those 19 go in picks 1-19 is effectively zero.)

I just listened to the whole hour and didn't hear anything about this. Did I miss it?
I listened to his most recent and the one from last month back to back. It was near the end one of one of them.

@JakeLFischer: Hearing many league execs believe Sixers' reported interest in Kristaps Porzingis/Joel Embiid's setback is smokescreen to force trade w/ ORL

@JakeLFischer: If the Sixers can trade for a pick 16-23, don't rule out possibility of packaging that with a future first to get a second lottery pick.

@JakeLFischer: Per a league source, Minnesota Timberwolves have discussed trading Anthony Bennet, Nos. 31 and 38 to the Boston Celtics for pick No. 28. >>>>>>>>

Jake is active right now.

Portland beat writers? M.I.A. since the playoffs.

Sources say 76ers and Blazers have discussed a deal that would give Philly #23 pick in exchange for #35 and #37 picks (and possibly more).

Not impressed

If Olshey is trading down, I would rather he made a trade with Minny, #23 for #31 & 36. (I believe pick #38 belongs to the Pistons)

Wasn't sure where to put this (or if I even should) for a number of reasons: it's not really a rumor (more just something I know to be the case), I have no sources to cite (because it was an in-person conversation with somebody very high up in the front office), and it's pretty much completely common-sensical, BUT, in the event that Neil DOES pull off a big trade, I thought it'd be fun to be able to say YOU HEARD IT FIRST! (Which, I'll be the first to say, has about a .00000001% chance of happening.)

So what the hell am I talking about? Neil LOVES D'Angelo Russell and thinks he's the perfect fit next to Damian AND CJ (separately, not at the 3).

Again, kind of a "no shit" statement since the whole world is starting to love the kid and he could very well go in the top 2 or 3, but I thought, with us rumored to be connected to a trade with Philly, maybe there's something to it? Batum, 23, and a completely unprotected future 1st rounder probably wouldn't get you completely laughed at, and if it involved a 3rd team, Kaman could be included to provide a bit of added additional cap space, plus we could take on a bad contract or two.

Again, I don't think this has a snowball's chance in hell of actually happening, but have been debating sharing it for a while and figured I might as well.

Twitter tells me that Monta Ellis has opted out. Any interest in him?

I like Monta but we have a player very much like him in CJ and he's another short combo guard not know for his defense, if we traded CJ and signed him and picket up another taller/defender type SG it could work

I agree with this. I like him too, but I would rather have CJ for less money. Monta is opting out to get more money and he will easily get 12-13 million. I think we need to spend our money on a different position.

Russell would be amazing, but like you said that would have to be a trade with philly.

If a DMC trade doesn't happen I think the top-5 will be:

Towns
Okafor
Russell
Winslow
Porzingis

Unfortunately I'd see the Lakers offering future picks and Julius randle instead of #2

What if Portland signs and trades Aldridge for the Lakers #2?

Tough call. Okafor IMO is the less risky pick. He will be solid for years to come, but not a super star.
I would probably go Russel if he can play D.

I would actually have us pick Russel at #2. I actually think he will be the best player coming out of this draft

Pretty sure Lakers have enough cap to sign LMA outright.

We start rebuild pretty early. Russell and Dame could be the stars of the future. They would compliment each other perfectly. It also allows us to not worry about re-signing matthews and Aldridge

Why in the world would the Lakers do that? They have cap space to sign Aldridge. Obviously Aldridge + 2 >> Aldridge on his own.
