Yeah...I want all five 2nd rounders. :cheers:

Trade our #23 for Philly's 5 2nd round picks. It frees up cap space and we are as likely to get a contributor out of 5 as a shot in the dark with just 1 pick.

#35 - Robert Upshaw
#37 - Jordan Mickey or Richaun Holmes
$47 - Richaun Holmes or Satnam Singh
#58 - Larry Nance Jr or Treveon Graham
#60 - Michael Qualls (hold his rights while he recovers)

You'd think that at least one of those guys would hit and maybe you get lucky with a 2nd. It would make for a very interesting Summer League for sure.

Do we have a rumor thread already? Sorry if we do.

Sources say 76ers and Blazers have discussed a deal that would give Philly #23 pick in exchange for #35 and #37 picks (and possibly more).

Not impressed

If there is nobody they really like at 23, then I think this makes sense. You get two shots just a bit later and no guaranteed contracts.

in another class I'd be for it. In this one, not so much. We can find a rotation player at 23. Quality>Quantity

What's so magical about the first round? By the lower third it's a crap shoot, except the first round has guaranteed contracts!
Just statistics

I tend to think the probability of a player picked at 23 being more likely to pan out than 35 or 37. D0 we increase those odds with more second round picks? Sure. In this draft, I think another 2nd round pick or two would be needed to sweeten that pot.

Thanks for making the thread! It's nice to be able to keep these things separate from conversations (although I'm sure this'll turn into a conversation thread rather quickly).

Suggestion: For someone who likes to keep abreast of all the personnel moves, it would be awesome to have a new thread once the Draft begins that shows all the additions and subtractions for each team in the league. The first post could be updated throughout the summer as FAs are signed, so there's a single post that captures all the moves of the summer. I'm imagining a format that looks like:

Team A:
Additions
{Player Name}
{Player Name}

Subtractions
{Player Name}
{Player Name}

Team B:
Additions
{Player Name}
{Player Name

Subtractions
{Player Name}
{Player Name}

If this were several years ago I'd do it, but I just don't keep up on these things anymore.

I imagined Philly giving up all five in the post I linked to, and if they're going to give up the best two, then at least one more would be needed, and then after that the other two are right near the very bottom of the draft and thus practically worthless, so why not throw 'em in? I would love that! Five chances to get needlessly excited about players who will never make the roster! And I'm not even being sarcastic!

Hey, with one of those last picks they could draft and stash that Indian guy, that would be a little exciting. With the two higher ones maybe something crazy could happen and a Justin Anderson could fall to 35. With that many second rounders, you do think Upshaw would be talked about at least.

trading out of the 1st round also clears a little more cap space

why would we even need 3 2nd rounders? the odds are good that none of them amount to anything. keep 23 and you have a chance to get someone like justin anderson, delon wright, rj hunter, maybe even kevon looney. Those guys have a better chance of sticking than anyone in the 2nd round.

Well, half of the team are free agents, second rounders are a cheap, albeit unexciting way to fill out the roster.

even if we lose those FAs, they will be replaced by other veterans, not 2nd rounders.

For each pick, the odds are that none of them amount to anything, but the more picks you get, the better. There are always several good players in the second round, so let's increase our odds.

Plus you use at least one on a draft-and-stash (Cedi Osman, I hope) so he doesn't take up space now.

Justin Anderson is not going to fall out of the first round unless he drops dead on the day before the draft.

I'll take all the Marc Gasol, Draymond Green, Manu Ginobili, Paul Millsap, Monta Ellis, Jerome Kersey, Rashard Lewis, Jae Crowder, Khris Middleton, Chandler Parsons, Hassan Whiteside, Danny Green, Cliff Robinson type players anyone wants to give me. It takes great scouting and a little luck but there are gems out there.

DX and nbadraft both have him all the way down to 27 now.

We could get Trob junior in Cliff Alexander, some of us liked Trob. They supposedly like Jarell Martin too, he might be there with those picks.

Oh yeah, there's that French center too.

23 for 35, 37 and then batum and $3 million for a lottery pick?

Let's say the odds are 1/30 that you find that diamond in the second round. If you don't find that diamond it's 1-(1/30), or 29/30. But the odds of not finding a diamond 5 times? That's 1-((29/30)*(29/30)*(29/30)*(29/30)*(29/30)) =16% which is better than 3% (original odds) times 5.

If we did trade out of the first round, that would give us more cap space if we needed it. Honestly nothing would shock me this summer and do not think Olshey knows for certain either. IMO he is preparing for anything.

Yeah trading out of the first tells me a few things. #1 Olshey is scraping for as much cap space as he can get right now which means he might have some major plans in place using space this summer. This is a good thing.

#2 perhaps he wants multiple rookies as assets to add to deals this offseason

#3 Maybe he wants multiple second rounders so we can flip some of them for future second rounders to replenish some of our assets that are gone

No one thought Crabbe would fall to the 2nd round (Although whether that ends up being a good thing or a bad thing is still very much yet to be decided).
