Rumored deal to be completed: NJ/PDX

unless the nets start winning and make the playoffs. not that hard in the east.

Yeah, everyone's overlooking that aspect. They gave up two guys that are out with injury and get back a guy in Wallace who makes them quite a bit better. Not a stretch at all to see them make the playoffs, in which case they gambled on getting a starter in exchange for a ho-hum pick.

Are you guys aware that after everything is said and done, we could be the one team that has the highest cap space available? And to boot, we still have a core of three very good players of Batum, Aldridge and E Will; then 2 good first rounders in a deep draft. Things are looking pretty bright today!

Possible, but then, has GW been playing this season like a guy you'd want to bank on being a starter for the next few years?

Or that they click and starting winning like crazy? We need them to stay right about where they are.

I can see that happening, really. I mean, looking at the roster, it's not like we're going super young or anything.

Felton/Nolan/Flynn
Wes/Crawford
Batum/Babbitt
Aldridge/Smith
Joel/Thomas

That still has the potential to be a fringe playoff team. Especially if Felton improves(how can he not?)

Wow. You are already penciling E Will in as a "very good player"? Call me crazy, but I think I need to see a wee bit more from E Double before declaring him a cornerstone of the franchise.

I hope not

If we play Felton over Flynn I'm going to be disappointed. Felton shouldn't even sniff the court.

Yes. Yes I am penciling him in as a good player.

A little insight into Shawne Williams:

Personal life

On September 11, 2007, Williams was arrested in Indianapolis, Indiana on a charge of possession of marijuana. Two passengers in Williams' car were also arrested. One was charged with possession of marijuana, the other was charged with possession of a stolen handgun.[6][7]

In January 2010, Williams was arrested in Memphis on felony drug charges for selling a codeine substance. Williams later pleaded guilty in April to misdemeanor drug possession. He was placed on six months' probation, ordered to undergo mandatory drug testing, attend a drug offender school and make a $10,000 contribution to the Shelby County Drug Treatment Court. His legal situation cleared up quickly.

Shawne Williams... also known as the guy that almost got posterized by B-Roy in the Rookie-Sophomore game.

Nope. That's Sean Williams. He's in the DLeague now.

He's actually with the Mavs right now.

He famously vomited near their bench during his first game. It was quite the mess.

All I remember is Sean Williams going all crazy eyes on LaMarcus after the Rookie-Sophomore game and giving him the double barrel F-U in his face.

Tough call, but there's a very real chance that whatever we get out of the NJ pick will be less productive than what we gave up to get it.

Maybe for a year. But consider the amount of cap space we created with the deal as well.

I doubt a lottery pick will be less productive than Gerald Wallace after he signs elsewhere.

:smiley-thumbup: Bulls-eye.

I don't know what happened to the guy, but he is not the player he was even 12 months ago. On top of that, his enthusiasm for being in Portland seemed to have waned.

Sometimes, it is better to trade a guy a year too early, than a year too late.

Its the old RB fun in Fantasy Football. Way better to ditch and pass on prime RB a year before they fall off then use one of your top picks and select a RB who suddenly isn't close to the same player from the year before. May be a bad example since RB's decline faster then any other position in all of sports.

Yeah, because cap space is so important in a non-destination market.

I consider it unlikely that it'll be a lottery pick. Williams, Wallace, Humphries, and Lopez is a pretty legit starting lineup and shouldn't have a problem inching into the playoff hunt in the east. I think NJ (and everyone else) realized how desperate we were to make a move and made a very calculated decision on whether their pick was worth keeping.

True, but there's also the very real chance that NJ could have drafted someone who would offer that franchise more than G-Dub will.

And even better.... as we get to draft day, and we know whether or not we have the pick this year and the draft order, it could become a VERY valuable trade piece, or allow us to trade our other pick. We could end up acquiring a proven piece for one of our picks.

In a deep draft, I'd be happy with our lotto and a #15. If NJ makes the playoffs, there is no way in HELL they are drafting any worse than #15. They're 4.5 games out of #8, and 9 games out of #7 (and #7 is Boston - that team has too many vets to collapse enough to let the Nets up to #7). That's with 22 games left (9 road/13 home), 9 of which are against teams that are currently Eastern playoff teams. They play 3 more games against other Eastern teams that are currently ahead of them in the standings. They also play Utah, @GSW, @Sac, @LAL, @LAL.

And the #8 in the West will have a better record than the Nets, so we get, at worst, the #15 pick in the draft to go with out other lotto pick. But I still am not counting on NJ making the playoffs.

NJ has a chance to get that #8 seed in the East (but that's the best they can do), and while their schedule is not the toughest, but it certainly isn't a cake-walk. There are 6 teams - 6 teams - competing for that last playoff spot in the East.

So, really..... simply put.... You're wrong. It's very likely that it's a lottery pick. I'm more concerned with the pick ending up Top-3, and we won't get the pick this year.

And for NJ to make the playoffs, they need to remain healthy. Lopez is still battling through injuries, and Deron Williams has had some minor tweaks here and there that have slowed him down.

Even if it is not a lottery pick, and it is #15, I'd be happy to take the #15 pick in this draft for Wallace, as well as the peace of mind that his contract will not be on our books.
I still think it is likely to end up a lottery pick, but 15 for someone we expected and hoped we wouldn't have is a good return, IMO.

I'd be shocked if it's NOT a lotto. Odds are fairly heavy against the Nets. At worst, it's #15. NJ is 9 games behind the West's #8 playoff team.

And as you say.... #15 and the certain cap space ain't too shabby.
