Runner Fails Gender Test, Loses Medal

Santhi Soundarajan, 25, took the gender test in Doha, Qatar, after placing second.

The Indian Olympic Association said Monday it has been told by the Olympic Council of Asia that the 25-year-old runner was disqualified.

"IOA has asked the Athletic Federation of India to return the medal as desired by the Olympic Council of Asia," the Indian Olympic group said.

The IOA also asked its medical commission to inquire into Soundarajan's case and report within 10 days.

There are no compulsory gender tests during events sanctioned by the International Association of Athletics Federations, but athletes may be asked to take a gender test. The medical evaluation panel usually includes a gynecologist, endocrinologist, psychologist and internal medicine specialist.

An Indian athletics official who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media said Soundarajan almost certainly never had sex-change surgery.

Instead, the official said Soundarajan appeared to have "abnormal chromosomes." The official also said the test revealed more Y chromosomes than allowed.

Soundarajan was not immediately available for comment.</div>

Yeah, he's apparently from the streets. Don't you remember that video he was in saying that snitchers would get what was coming to them or whatever? He's been busted for drugs before too. Street cred doesn't really equal physical prowess in my opinion though. Most people from the 'streets' that I've seen don't know how to fight right. They all put on such a front but then run away or pull out guns when you want to get physical. [/end macho rant]

This kinda pisses me off, well actually I don't really care. But I've always wondered was why girls could play with guys in sports (Michelle Wie, Anika Sorenstam) but guys can't play with girls (like this runner guy).

^I've often wondered the same thing. In Winnipeg, there were two female twins who wanted to play on the men's high school hockey team (they were pretty good), but because their school already had a female hockey team, they weren't permitted. So they filed a lawsuit with the Human Rights Commision, and eventually won the right to play as well as $5000 each for emotional damages. In the process though, they were portrayed to the whole city through the media as whiny bitches and everyone hated them. It was all good though, because in the end, they ended up getting cut anyways.

I find that annoying too. IMO, girls are basically admitting that males are better at sports than them when they try to do that. Kind of counterproductive to the whole equality thing.

LOL men are better than women at every sport. If you look at every sport, a man holds the record in every category and on average men perform better than women in sport/athletical events.

There is a significant difference between the female and male body anyway, so you can't even really compare. Also, women's handball is actually better then the men's IMO.

Anyway, enough talk about whether this is a girl, a boy, a goy, a birl, or a hermaphrodite. Let it be what it wants and stand down. Bah!
