It's a cult of personality. As to why they fixated on him, rather than some other rich bigot--well, how do you predict which video will go viral? It's a mysterious alchemy. Trump's mix of dumbing his speech down to act like his idea of "a rural high school educated person," his taking pride in being a dick, his willingness to blame all society's ills on minorities and women, his posing as an alpha male--all of this appealed to a group of people that make up around 40% of the Republican party and 20% of the overall electorate.

And now that it is a cult of personality, there is literally nothing that can dissuade them from supporting him. What's right is now defined, in their mind, by what he does. They get all their news from him, since he's told them the rest of the media is giving them fake news. He can be as corrupt as he wants because when he says he did nothing wrong, that's what his base hears.

Fortunately, his base is a minority of the nation. So this isn't quite as dangerous as a personality cult leader who has the majority of the nation behind him.

  • US forces in Afghanistan suffered a total of 10 deaths from hostile gunfire or improvised bombs in 2018, 16 in 2019 and two so far in 2020
  • Some of those deaths were the result of 'insider attacks' known as 'green on blue'
  • Russia and the Taliban have denied the existence of the program

If President Trumpivich truly was aware (not that we’ll likely ever know for sure) of the Russian bounty and ignored it, then he should be impeached by a united Congress and then tried for treason. Of all the crap that shitbag has gotten away with, if the Republicans let this slide unchallenged, they too should be impeached and tried for treason. There is absolutely NO way @ABM, @MARIS61 or any of the other Trump apologists can rationalize this kind of behavior. Especially after all the bullshit they falsely accused Obama of. They’d look even more stupid than they already do. This is just absolutely unconscionable. Spin this all you Donald Moron enablers.

I'll bet you we did it when the Russians were in Afghanistan in 1980. Of course, they became experts with our RPG's when they fired at Russian gunship helicopters, APC's and the T55's.
The Russians were smart to get out but we are there to make it our longest war. We should have got the hell out of that region decades ago.
