What did you see in this game? Please make sure you watched at least 3 quarters.

All you had to see is the last 14 seconds. :tsktsk:

Every game win or loss can be summed up with these words: We play no defense. Playing no defense does not win you championships. Until we learn how to play, get a new coach or whatever, we just won't get over the hump.

we played decent enough defense to be up one with the ball with 14 seconds left and the ability to run out the clock to 2.3 seconds. We gave up 89 in the first 47:51 to a team that put up 127 last night.

This one comes down to not scoring as efficiently as we're supposed to, and having a meltdown in the last 15 seconds.

I watched a very deep team that is poised to win the West possibly. Golden State has got better and they are playing at a very high level even on the road.
They play tough both ways and the Blazers for the first time this season seemed like they were not the better team that just played poorly.

I saw a coach badly need a time out that he had already squandered.

Two games in a row, sour ball movement. The Spurs are supposed to be the model, well they always make the extra pass. Not so much for Blazers tonight, with a team playing as aggressive on D as the Warriors did, fast and furious ball movement is key.

I saw a lot of missed opportunities to take this game. Some poor decision making on the court and one of my pet peeves, bricked layups and lazy passes. Against GS you aren't going to win if you keep giving them the ball.

The overturned call was bad, but it shouldn't have come down to that. Same problem we had last year closing out games showed up tonight.

1) Inbounding the ball at the end of games. 3 straight turnovers inbounding the ball in the last 24 seconds. It's debatable whether this issue is coaching, personnel, or combo of both. Whatever the reason, this continues to be an issue.

2) When the game slows down & it's 1 half court possession at a time, we struggle. Other teams can break down our defense and get decent looks, like KT did tonight. When was the last time the Blazers had a possession at the end of a game like that one? Klay comes off a screen and gets right into the lane to hits the game winner from about 8' over Wes. Contested, but makeable shot. Us? IF we are able to inbound & IF we get a shot off, it's Dame from somewhere in the parking lot or LA fading away from 20'. Not high % shots compared to the ones we give up. As good as LA & Dame are, for different reasons they aren't able to get those types of shots off with the game on the line. Dame has hit his share of 30'ers to win some games, but that's not sustainable. Did anybody think we were going to score when we got the ball back with 8 sec left down 1?

As a rookie, Lillard excelled at the end of close games because he felt in charge, as if it were still Weber State. In Years 2 and 3, he's looked unmotivated, having to split ballhandling duties with Batum, Mo, and Blake and be a bit player.

Hey Stotts, get Batum off of Lillard's back and let Lillard get into the game mentally.

Same problems as last season. Not sure what I expected.

I often don't get to watch the game and I'm trying to use these threads to learn insights on what happened. I'm not sure the motivations for your posts, but I am asking you to refrain from commenting if you don't want to genuinely add to the conversation.

Huh?? He is adding to the conversation. He's expressing a point of view that makes a lot of sense, in fact. What exactly is your issue with him?

Dame needs to figure it out. Even a mediocre game from him, and we win this. I've never seen him this bad

I saw a team that really needs an upgrade, but I know some of you will think I'm trolling

You don't watch games, but you want to silence those who do?

Now that Stotts is on the way out, is Bobby Knight available?

They wrote the equivalent of "We played hard and scrapped."

Talking about yourself? Because you sounded like a troll in that post above, telling 3 people who had watched the game that they were trolls when you apparently hadn't watched.

Not sure if this applies here but apparently we have lost to the top team in the NBA and this years Phoenix Suns" so Im not sure if that helps at all.

Reading another thread, I think it's because it's a marathon, not a sprint. ;)

From the game thread:

BNM's keys to tonight's game:

1) TOVs.

In the first two games of the season:

GSW:
TOV = 42
OPP TOV = 48

POR:
TOV = 20
OPP TOV = 23

So, the Warriors force over twice as many turnovers as the Blazers, but they also commit over twice as many. The Warriors play fast and loose. If the Blazers can take care of the ball, and take advantage of the Warriors sloppy play, it could be the difference in the game. The two teams are so equally matched in most other areas.

2) Fouls and FT shooting of the Bigs

Bogut, Ezeli and Nedovic are all foul prone. So far this season:

Bogut PF/36 = 6.0
Ezili PF/36 = 13.7
Nedovic PF/36 = 24.0

Combine the propensity of their big men to commit fouls, with the fact that Aldridge, Lopez and Kaman are all above average FT shooters and this could be another advantage for the Blazers.

BNM

We started out well in both areas, but failed miserably as the game wore on, especially in the 4th quarter.

We had:

8 FTA and 3 TOV in the 1st Quarter
4 FTA and 3 TOV in the 2nd Quarter
2 FTA and 5 TOV in the 3rd Quarter
0 FTA and 8 TOV in the 4th Quarter

We just stopped attacking the basket. Aldridge was setting up further and further from the basket as the game wore on. He got hot in the 4th, but we need him to put more pressure on the opposing defense. Draymond Green was denying him the ball, which made LaMarcus drift further and further out. If LaMarcus would have received the ball deeper, Green would not have been able to stop him, LaMarcus can simply shoot over him.

Three things to counteract Green overplaying and denying the ball:

1) Run an occasional backdoor lob to Aldridge for an easy dunk.

2) Hard V-cuts (fake the backdoor) to drive Green under the basket and cut back to the ball to receive it closer to the basket (10 - 12 feet instead of 18 - 20 feet).

3) Two or three quick passes instead of holding the ball until Aldridge finally gets open 20 feet from the basket. Keep the ball moving and pass into the post from different entry angles. Last night almost all entry passes came from the left wing with the entry passer holding the ball for several seconds until Aldridge finally broke free from Green 18 - 20 feet from the basket. If Aldridge isn't open within 15 feet of the basket pass the ball back to the top or to the corner and allow Aldridge to establish lower post position. Keep the ball moving between the top of the key, the wing and the corner so the defender doesn't know where the pass into the post is going to come from. That makes it much harder to deny the entry pass and will allow Aldridge to catch the ball closer to the basket. That will get him a higher percentage shot and he will also be much more likely to draw fouls, get the opposing bigs in foul trouble, get to the line for some easy points and get your team in the bonus - something the Blazers failed to do for the last 3 quarters last night.

Spot-On BNM.

So frustrating to watch Aldridge have Green on him and the Blazers not take advantage.
