New battery technology is the name of the game now....the research on alternative batteries is big biz these days..

My 2005 Prius had batteries and I never had to replace them. Seems like they're going to last the life of the car.

Some people do have to replace batteries. I think for the Prius the batteries were $1700 installed.

You are talking about reuse and recycling? I imagine they will figure out a way to recycle these. The Lithium is worthy of recovery, I understand that right now there are too many different methods to create the batteries which makes it hard to create a standardized method to recycle them and retrieve the Lithium - but like most industries, once things settle down they tend to standardize. I suspect that by the time there are enough of these vehicles (way more than the 1% that are now sold in the US - there will be standards for constructing and thus recycling them.

The Prius uses NiMH batteries (an older, cheaper to manufacture method) - which at this time are pretty standard and easier to recycle.

Of course not. They can be recycled, it is not easy however, because of the lack of standardization in construction processes at this point in time.

The Stinger was designed by Peter Schreyer (German) who moved there from Audi. The engineering lead is Albert Biermann who used to be BMW's M chief engineer.

So you basically have a German engineering and design mass produced by a company that can actually make stuff that is not overly complicated for no apparent reason (Just asked anyone that had to service German cars).

BTW - I would like to point out that I am not a huge fan of Hyundai / Kia - they have gotten much better for sure, but I do not think they are anywhere near the Japanese in mass production of uncomplicated cars. However, I would take a Kia Stinger GT for 75% of the cost of the equivalent BMW or Audi with the Rube Goldberg designs they seem to prefer these days. Only German cars that make sense to me these days are the simple VWs where they do not try to do too much or Porsche which actually seem to know what they are doing.

God I love German cars though. The smell, the craftsmanship, the performance. You can throw out all the facts and auto knowledge and smarts, but I will take my Audi over those rice rockets any and every day. Holding on to mine til summer of 2019. Going to get the same car, but newer. Only bad part is, they don't use my 4.2L V8 anymore. but will get something like this.......

Interesting thing about cars, some people look at them as just a form of transportation. A way to get from A to B....... I don't. I feel like it's an extension of you. I drove an 1983 VW GTI for 9 years after HS. Literally drove that piece of crap into the ground. Was always trying to make it look and run better ,but was never successful in that mission. Always kind of embarrassing pulling up in it to play ball at the park or to pick up my girl. When I was finally able to afford something nicer, I jumped on the opportunity. Kind of like my shoe collection....... got tired of wearing shoes with holes in em and flipped the script. To each his own.....

My first car was an E30. 1988 325. Two blue racing stripes, best car I've ever driven. RIP.

If I ever win the lottery I am getting an E30 M3.

I love the e30 m3, way back in the day went to see a low mileage 88 in Olympia, loved it, told the guy I needed to sleep on it, called the next morning and it was gone. Stupid me.

The 1991 318i and 318is were a baby m3, only year with the dohc engine in the sedan or coupe, around 140 bhp was only 25 less then the 325, but 250 lbs less weight, all of it on the nose made it about as fast but much better handling. That car would have been like my Miata, never would have sold it. A van ran into the back of that car when I was standing at a red light and it was totaled.

The 4 door is so rare that there were less of these with that engine than m3.

Every once in a while one pops up and I go look at it, but they are all junk by now, no one maintained them, so it's real hard to find one. There coupe you can find at times, but I liked the sedan better, it had much more comfortable seats and the doors are a proper size

My favorite BMW to his day is probably a 1988 M5! Used to drive some when I managed a detail shop WAAAAAY back and fell in love with them.

My fiancées car finally quit so I got her a 2014 Jetta with 8800 miles for now. Once my Nissan is paid off I’ll upgrade her VW but for now works great, perfect condition for only 11k
