Holy shit, he broke his leg during warmups?!

No, they put his warmups on (and their own) just for S&G's before carrying him off the floor with his broken leg.

Big deal I bet he's not the only player who has done this. BRoy lied about his pain to.

Roy was after the fact, for the most part.

Hindsight is 20/20, but it adds to the intrigue of passing MJ.

Who's to say that if he had said "yep, when you hit me with the mallet, it hurts" that the Blazers still wouldn't have drafted him.

Shit happens, and you miss out on MJ. But I became a fan during the Drexler years, hating MJ, and am fine with how things turned out. Fuck hindsight!

I may have done the same as him, but I would have done it knowing I was an asshole.

Go Blazers

Totally agreed. I once told Sam (as an young, young unknowing fan), "I can't believe we passed on Jordan for you."

He smirked, said, "I've heard it before," and signed my basketball. Really nice dude actually.

"Nice" doesn't win championships, though. Jordan did.

That's pretty cool. These guys must hear that kind of shit from fans all the time. I remember going to Grizzlies games when they first came to Memphis, and it was the kind of environment in our podunk city where they'd pretty much let you hang around next to the court before games, and there would always be fans heckling without even meaning to. Rednecks and po folk saying stupid shit like, "Look how short Earl Watson is! I'm taller than Earl Watson! Honey, get a picture of me being taller than Earl Watson!" etc. ... I even remember my own pops having a few too many, grabbing Steve Kerr around the shoulder, post-retirement, and telling him how old he looked, like they went way back or something, and Steve didn't even get mad about it, he just made a joke and walked off like it was nothing.

I'm honestly surprised we haven't had more Malice at the Palace incidents. Most of these guys have more composure under the circumstances than we give them credit for.

My meeting Bowie was at a kids' bball practice, so he wasn't going to raise a stink. But agreed on the overall point. Plus, he was still playing and injured.

I was at a supermarket about a year before Duckworth died and he was there. A kid went up to Duck with his dad, who was obviously a fan, and the kid (5 or so) said " how did you play when you're so fat" Kevin just said he was thinner back when he played. The father was beat red and apologizing and Duck said "no problem man, we were all kids once".

Man I miss Duck.

I love me some Duck. Was at a friend's house when I heard of the deal with the Bullets for Grant. Was soooo sad.

The fact that Bowie had busted up his foot in college was enough of a red flag to pass on him. What the hell would they expect him to say?

"Nah, my foot hurts like hell! Only an idiot would draft me this high! I want to make less money by being drafted lower."

I hope someone links to your post next time we read about how dumb and conceited NBA players are.

Is there a way we can blame Paul Allen?

LOL I was at that game. I had a 12 pack season ticket package of standing room only behind the basket opposite where the team was warming up. For some reason I have that in my brain as opening night, but I could be wrong

a young kid lied to improve his chances at money?!

Y'all kill me. You guys act like I was shocked about this (I presume it's cuz I called him an SOB). Not surprised at all. I mean, I do believe in a little thing called honesty (I'm certain a few people on this board don't know what the word is - look it up), but I'm not shocked by this. Just was trying to post something I found on the web.

For some reason this has resurfaced:

Sounds like he needed to purge some inner guilt. Is what it is. The Blazers GM did a piss poor job in that draft. He wanted Hakeem, but after losing the coin flip, he settled on an oft injured center out of need. That's on Inman, and his staff. Bobby Knight told him to draft Jordan. He didn't listen. I was in the Air Force when it all went down, so i have no idea if , or not, Blazer fans were mad at that pick. Seems to me there was truly a lack of info for the everyday fan back then. We just stood in line and accepted whatever the team did. GM's today have it way worse than back in the day with the advent of Social Media.

The Oden pick , to me, is even more shameful on the staff. As a fan, i just saw a center that looked like the real deal. But after the Bowie situation, the team should have went over Oden with a fine tooth comb. They didn't, and our team was burnt again. I sure as heck hope Sharpe isn't strike three. They should have examined him more than Barney & Betty got examined by them there Aliens.

When did we play Walton through the playoffs on a broken ankle? I don't remember that at all. I've read they didn't treat his injury appropriately, but not that.
