How many of those were suicides?
I’ve seen plenty of anti gun propaganda and they like to skew their numbers. I have heard all the reasons to get rid of guns. It's a short video, watching it would answer your question.
This rifle is the same .22 kids have been shooting for 100 years... It just looks different.'It shoots just like mom and dad's gun': Weapons manufacturer unveils AR-15 for KIDS - called JR-15 - that is 20% smaller and weighs just 2.3lbs

- Weapons manufacturer Wee 1 Tactics unveiled JR-15, a kids' version of AR-15-style assault rifle
- Semiautomatic rifle is 20 percent smaller than AR-15, weighs 2.3lbs and shoots .22-caliber rounds
- Weapon, decorated with skull and crossbones with pacifier, was introduced at last months' SHOT show in Las Vegas
- AR-15 semiautomatic assault rifles were used in 11 mass shootings in the US since 2012, including at Sandy Hook, in Las Vegas and at Parkland
Is it bolt action? Mine was bolt action back in the 50s which is what every kid I knew that had a .22 shot back then. This rifle is the same .22 kids have been shooting for 100 years... It just looks different.
Probably not. But they've been semiautomatic for that long as well... And many kids used them. We had a bolt action and a semi-auto when I was a kid.Is it bolt action? Mine was bolt action back in the 50s which is what every kid I knew that had a .22 shot back then.
Bingo.I grew up with this bad boy

What's funny to me though is that it's the same gun. It shoots the same rounds. It's no more deadly. It just looks scarier.
I can;t recall exactly but I think mine held about 7 shots. J.C. Higgins.Probably not. But they've been semiautomatic for that long as well... And many kids used them. We had a bolt action and a semi-auto when I was a kid.
And they've always held 13 rounds as well.
The bolt action was nice to conserve ammunition, otherwise it's pretty much the same.
To preface, I'm a conservative; but not a gun owner; I despise the rise in gun violence; but don't blame the guns themselves.I grew up with this bad boy

I never saw it.Long among the most popular .22 rifles (or rifles in general), the Marlin Model 60 (semiautomatic) actually had an 18 round capacity until 1968, when capacity was reduced to 14 rounds.

My father in law eats squirrel all the time. Absolutely loves it.I never saw it.
Why would you need it when killing birds and squirrels?
Actually, I shot the tail off a squirrel so my dad had to take the gun to finish off the squirrel. That was my last attempt at hunting any animal not fit for eating.

With that backdrop, I guess my question is... why make the gun "look scarier"? Full disclosure, my intuitive thought is that the manufacturer would do something like that to convey militaristic thinking to the prospective purchaser, but I'm certain that can't be the only reasonable explanation.
actually there's a ton of things that are used in our every day life that were originally designed for the military for one reason or another.
I don't think "look scary" is the goal. The AR style guns are just easier to personalize. And that's really popular. To preface, I'm a conservative; but not a gun owner; I despise the rise in gun violence; but don't blame the guns themselves.

When shooting big game it's considered stupid to take more than 2 or 3 shots to kill your animal and over 90% of the time it takes one shot if you're a serious hunter and only serious hunters should be allowed to hunt. One time I was out hunting with a couple buddies and we could hear a semi go off 8 or 10 times while my partners were shaking their heads in disgust. We all had bolt actions because you never needed multiple shots and the action on a bolt action is far superior to aMy father in law eats squirrel all the time. Absolutely loves it.
As far as capacity, it's just more efficient. Especially if you're hunting ground squirrel where you can go through 1000 rounds in a day.
Of course, it's different with big game. But it's not legal to hunt big game with a rimfire .22 (the rifles we're discussing). That's far different than looking over a field of literally thousands of ground squirrels scurrying about... Making the rifle in an AR configuration allows for a broader range of scopes and other accessories to be used for such hunts.
And in Eastern Oregon property owners encourage these hunts on their property to help control the population of ground squirrels.
But you don't hunt big game with AR style rifles chambered in .22 caliber. We were discussing rifles and hunting. You even brought up AR15s.
On that note, the convenience of shooting ground squirrels with an AR15 type of rifle can't really compare with the loss of loved ones to mass murders by AR15 style rifles.

You don't hnnt with a wooden stock too often either. Then we don't need to hunt wild pigs with an AR15 style rifle either. I've got too many other things going on in my life to be going round and round like this in a useless pissing contest. But you don't hunt big game with AR style rifles chambered in .22 caliber.
You do hunt wild pigs with larger caliber AR style rifles. And also in an attempt at population control.
There is no evidence that eliminating AR style rifles would impact death rates at all.
For instance the M1 Garand pictured below is far more lethal than nearly every AR style rifle sold. And it's just a simple modification from the most popular big game hunting rifle for the last 100 years.

Here is the Remington 700 used by Charles Whitman to kill over a dozen people in 1966...

Murderers are going to use what is available to murder people. Getting rid of specific types of guns available today is not going to save anybody from being killed by a gun.
So if we can't get rid of all guns it's a waste of time and energy to focus on specific types.
This is like supporting the Woodson foundation, IMO.
It's just a distraction from the real problems.
