The Santa Cruz Warriors defeated the Los Angeles D-Fenders 115-114 in overtime Tuesday evening in a game where Santa Cruz let a 22-point lead slip away in the fourth quarter.
Santa Cruz was led by Seth Curry, who scored a game-high 27 points and dished out seven assists. Dewayne Dedmon recorded his sixth consecutive double-double with 15 points and a new Santa Cruz individual single-game record 21 rebounds. Cameron Jones scored 23 points, while Kevin Kotzur logged a double-double with 14 points and 15 boards.
The D-Fenders were paced by C.J. Williams, who scored 13 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter, including the game-tying three with 2.6 seconds left in regulation to force overtime. Manny Harris scored 21 points, while Andre Ingram scored 17 off the bench.
The D-Fenders held their only lead for 16 seconds in the beginning of the game, relinquishing it when Cameron Jones hit a three-pointer to make it 3-2. Santa Cruz added to its lead throughout the game, owning as much as a 26-point advantage in the third quarter, but the D-Fenders roared back on a 23-8 run in the final 2:48 of the fourth quarter to tie the game at 112. Jones hit a three-pointer in the first minute of overtime and the Warriors hung on for the victory.
Santa Cruz outshot the D-Fenders from the floor (46.6%-37.0%) and held the edge on assists (21-19) and rebounds (65-51). The Warriors' 65 boards is a new team single-game record, beating their previous mark of 64 set on December 28, 2012 against the Springfield Armor. The Warriors committed 30 turnovers to the D-Fenders' 15.
