Scherzer...7 years/$210 Mil.

Nice, well played by him and Boras. Hopefully Cashman is offering to pay part of that for Zimmerman and/or Strassburg.

I was afraid some dumb ass owner was going to give him a big contract but DAMN! $210M is just fucking brain dead. And now if Shields is expecting anything near to that he'll be out of work next year. IMO I think Shields is good for 4 years @ $60-70M TOPS!

MONDAY 10:40am: Scherzer will receive $210MM for seven years of work, but the contract has an unusual structure, with Scherzer receiving $15MM per season for the next 14 years, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sportstweets. That means the Nationals will be paying Scherzer through 2028. Also, Yahoo! Sports’ Jeff Passantweets that the deal includes a $50MM signing bonus that will be paid out “over a portion of time” for tax reasons. That bonus would, presumably, be included in the $210MM total. As Passan notes, the deferral makes the contract worth about $185MM in present-day dollars. (And MLB will calculate the value of the contract in present-day dollars for luxury-tax purposes, Rosenthal tweets.) The structure of the contract and Washington DC tax laws could ultimately save Scherzer over $20MM, however, Passan reports. Scherzer’s deferral is, obviously, the largest one in MLB contract history, leaving Bobby Bonilla and the Mets’ lengthy $29.8MM deferral in the dust.

Really interesting deal structure. $15M/yr for 7 years after the players contract is over is a pretty steep commitment. I hope this isn't the new "shift" fad for contracts. Great for players today...not so much down the road.

Rick you know I don't worry about the $ amount, but this deal structure is atrocious. I get the tax issues, especially in DC..but 7 years of deferrals? And we thought a 3 year buy out of ARods contract was painful? At this president, you could say hey ARod, here is 10M for the next 6 years not to be a Yankee anymore. If you can sign elsewhere consider that a bonus.

Actually that's not such a bad idea. I knew you had it in you.

What can I say I fucking missed you, you arrogant bastard. Between seeing American Sniper and a day at the range shooting Beatle album covers its all good. :devilwink::devil::devilwink:

...I missed you too, tote. Ain't the same around here without you.

...was A.S. as good as advertised?...I'll prolly download the torrent and watch it?

...and hey, don't be dissin' The Beatles. !

...I'm guessing the Nats are not concerned about the Lux Tax because Max's contract still counts as $30 per year in AAV.

The movie was excellent Ron. And you're right anyone who doesn't like the Beatles deserves to be french kissed by Rosie O'Donnell.

..."kissed by Rosie ODonnell"?...wait, do you mean that tote is a lesbian? :blazerwookie::blazerwookie::blazerwookie:

He does act like a bitch sometimes. I don't think its by accident.

American Sniper definitely a must see, but I have to say its one movie I'll always want to watch on a big screen. Its really not a war story, its a coming home/getting back home story. Clint doesn't pollute the scenes which dramatic background music. So when the credits roll in silence everyone in the theater sat quiet. Then reverent applause follows for 30 sec and people still sit in silence, slowly and quietly getting up and exiting row by row. Closest thing I've scene to it was opening night of Platoon, but that wasn't close to this.

This movie will likely have a culture shifting effect. No way the issues at the VA don't get fixed and fast. And I think you start seeing people do more than thank vets for their service and sacrifice. I think you start seeing people go one step further. When I'm on biz travel and I have a layover where I'm grabbing lunch/dinner, I always look for someone in uniform and ask them to join me. Have met some really good kids that way. Its not much but the gesture is appreciated whole heartedly.

I can't believe Eastwood didn't get a nomination for this, maybe I should start a protest. My format could be that no white men over 80 were nominated.

I have not seen any sports contract with deferrals like this since Steve Young was given a huge 40 Million $$ deferred contract; over the course of 42 years.

some websites think Young took the deferred contract, which I too thought, since in its initial stages, the Press reported Young took the deferred contract, but obviously he took the money up front, which was not reported, quit the opposite.

Quit the opposite according to this interview with Young:
At 4:18 Mark

Had Young not of opted or taken the "Money Up Front" Opting for the annuity:
then Young would of continued to draw $1 Million $$$ a year, to THIS DAY: and would be receiving $1,000,000 a year from an annuity purchased by a team in a league that hasn't played a down of football in a quarter-century. Presumably, the annuity will continue to pay him until 2026.

Speaking at the RNC convention against Obama isn't going to get you many award nominations in Hollywood. He's got a noteable blank spot....

And if Spielberg didn't punt this project, Clint wouldn't have gotten the call from Cooper.

Lux tax has escalators for repeat offenders, like the AMT tax.

...lol...tote, when are y

...yeah, the trailer looked very intense...I can't imagine some of the mental things that guy had to deal with.

...and I'm glad you brought up the VA thing. I'm so pissed off about the way the government reneges on the Vets and it's been going on for many years...they fucked over my Dad, they fucked over the Viet Nam vets too, as well as todays vets. When you tell someone that you'll take care of them in return for serving their country, then do it, damnit ! It really is a disgrace what our government's indifference has done, not only to our Vets, but our elderly as well.
...and I know what you mean about asking someone in uniform to sit down and break bread with you...it's the very least we can do...and there have been several occasions when I have run into someone in uniform, and regardless of their rank or gender, I salute them...I mean I actually stand at attention and physically salute them...and like my Dad taught me, I hold my salute until they acknowledge it with one of their own as if they are my superior...and when you get right down to it, they are.

...yeah, and I'm thinking they've got quite a few more big contracts coming up...if they wanna keep the guys they have now.

Yes Cliff I'm well aware of all his other nominations I was talking about THIS movie. IMO he deserved a nomination for it.

IMO; Spielberg is losing his moxy, or the keen eyesight for creating unique NEW movies, worthy of Academy Awards., But WTF do you call a producer/director, who turns down American Sniper, for Indiana Jones #5; a sequel to Gremlins, another boring Jurassic Park movie. (only good things about this move is the Surround Sound), and Transformers #5; these multi-sequel stories/films are not unique at this stage in the game. IMO Spielberg has lost his artistic eye, other than being blinded by a shot at making money on rehashed B.S. Movies.

Overkill, when the talent well dries up? Seem's that way to me, the best of Spielberg is behind him.

Halo may be a decent flick at best. His TV shows, suck. I began to watch his TV shows, Whispers, Under the Dome, and Falling Skies, for their 1st season. I didn't care to see any more of the 1st two TV shows, other than watching the beginning of the 3rd season of Falling Skies, I gave up, as the story line was drawn out, slow and flat out boring shit.....!

He's a billionaire I don't think he cares and he would rather do stuff he wants to do.

Sure, I agree on that, he does what he wants to do, and the public is no longer privy to a once great mind, creating great movies. Now with all his money he really need not bother even staying employed in Hollywood. Yet, I can't help feel Spielberg "SOLD OUT" to his movie viewing Fans.....Hell I don't care to see Transformers #1, let alone #5.

Cards and Giants likely have peaked....Nat's seem to believe now is the time, Cubs gonna be a force soon. NL is going to have some interesting storylines in 2015.

Lets not sleep on the Padres either.

No doubt its going to be interesting with the Nats Aces this year.....

However, the Nats, and MLB Analysts in the Majority have pegged the Nats to take the NLCS for what 3 or 4 years in succession now.....sad, over hyped???? I don't know, they got a helluva club, that seems to misfire come PS....! Que Sera Sera.....JeSuis Max......."Rire Ma Putain de cul" aka LMFAO....!
