Uneducated liberals like to act like they know what they are talking about, but the stoner platform they find "scary" can be chambered from .22 to .50 cal. They have no clue what they are saying when they say "assault rifle" but they know they saw one one time and CNN says they are bad.

Yeah, it cracks me up.

My niece in Montana bagged a big cougar, near record cat. She used her AR in pink and was 10 at the time. I suppose we could start a friendly AR campaign and promote all the ARs in pretty color schemes to make them liberal friendly...

Exactly! Then my .308. I love my .270 but I know I have to find my own feed for that one.

Ha! I was trying to bait the guy into a discussion on the powerful weapons of war. Well I sort of prefer that .270 almost anywhere, especially if I have a couple guys with me that maybe aren't really that good but they can spray the area with the .223. Then the .308 is my next choice. That .223 is support, not prime function. But good enough for those that flinch anyway.

I'm not sure how else to answer your question, as I've stated multiple times, I recognize that I don't have the answers. I've also referenced multiple issues (and various, albethey somewhat vague approaches to handling those issues) that did more to state my approach than you did in this thread... That said, let me give it some form of a shot, at least in somewhat broad strokes...
  1. I think it's incredibly dangerous that we have lawmakers beholden to the NRA for campaign finance. The fact that no guns are allowed at Mar a Lago and the RNC and DNC tells me all I need to know about politicians view guns. So we absolutely NEED to do something about campaign finance reform. Like DRASTICALLY. Take the guns out of the picture -- whether it's legalized drugs, Tide Pods, gambling... NO industry or special interest group should have that much control over the people making our laws, let alone one who builds things designed to kill. To further this conversation down an exceedingly scary path (if true, which I'm not necessarily saying it is...) if it's found that Russia was working through the NRA to affect the election? Man... at the very VERY minimum I think a clean sweep of the NRA would be needed. I can't see how those two things could be remotely compatible going forward...

  2. I'm all for people's rights to feel safe. The argument of many gun owners is that they're used for safety or for hunting. That, to me, is completely fine. If you're a responsible gun owner who's of sound mental faculties and isn't "losing" your gun (because apparently that's a thing), then I fail to see why a few more regulations that you should easily pass, aren't worth implementing if the end result is saving lives? Other countries that do not have mass shootings on a weekly basis require you to keep your gun locked, apart from your ammo; relicense your gun every year with proof that you purchased it; mental tests; usage tests, etc. AGAIN if you're a responsible gun owner why should any of these issues -- beyond the minor inconveniences -- be a big deal? None of that seems unreasonable.

  3. Staying the course with reasonability, any attempt to change the gun from its purchased state should be looked at. Bump stocks, extended clips, silencers, etc. -- if you're a reasonable and responsible gun owner, presumably you're buying and using the gun for its intended purposes and probably shouldn't ever have a need to alter it.

  4. The sale of guns in any capacity should by highly regulated and controlled, and background and mental checks should be an absolute necessity. Gun shows and the like have no business in this world. To that end, something needs to be figured out about higher powered munitions. Again, I don't know guns well enough to know the answer. Maybe it's a sliding scale of gun + ammo size + RPM? Don't know, but again, if we're trying to set some reasonable standards here, I think reasonable people could agree that it's probably not a good thing to have a high-powered rifle firing hundreds of large-caliber bullets per minute.

  5. Something should absolutely be done about mental health. As someone who's been to therapy and swears by it, frankly, I think the entire world should be seeing a mental health professional, but that's not reasonable. As mentioned above, you should absolutely have to pass routine mental health examinations and background checks to own/buy a gun. But again, much as I'm not a gun expert, I'm also not a mental health expert -- these answers (such that there are any) are above my expertise.

  6. In general, I think less guns (especially high-caliber, semi or fully automatic ones, in particular) is at least part of the answer. Police in schools didn't help in Florida. The good guy with a gun didn't help at Clackamas Town Center. In my opinion, those are largely myths that gun advocates either want to believe (seen too many movies) or are hiding behind.
At the end of the day, I think gun advocates are going to have to renounce some liberties for the sake of all of us, and I don't feel as though that's too much to ask. When it takes more to drive a car, buy headache medicine or get a loan than it does to acquire something that can cause mass chaos and damage, something's gotta give. But as I've said in numerous posts on this thread, this thread was about students protesting, not about my less-than fully-informed opinions on how to fix an issue as large and untenable as gun control. And I applaud them for standing up and making their voices heard. We need our political leaders to be making decisions based on what's best for this country's citizenry, not the special interest groups lining their pockets and buying their votes.

It occurs to me that if the community really wanted to effect a change, they should protest the lack of follow up by local police as well as FBI. From what I have seen there were 39 police visits to this kids home, he threatened him mother, was violent at home. This was the reason he was in a foster home. The FBI had spoken to him based upon posting a threat that he "Wanted to be a professional shooter" and shoot up a school. Even with all the red lights going off, he was allowed to purchase a rifle.

Seems to my the the blame is not on the rifle, but rather the failure lies with the system.

You see. This tells me you are misinformed. There are no high Caliber fully automatic weapons legally available. You can get a .30 caliber semi auto and and old .35 caliber. I guess you can go for making all the .308s, 30-06s and 35 Remington semi auto illegal. You sure would gather up the opposition. But why would you do this? I was trying to be reasonable in offering to revue of and amendment. I could be persuaded to support changes. But until I see a specific change, noway do I support any change to the amendment or infringement of the right to bare arms.

I have advocated stricter training and licensing requirements to be able to purchase a weapon period. proved my point.....if you're not in the conversation, you're against it. you've put me on the other team but actually we're fellow countrymen...talk with people and you get to know them...talk against them you just piss them off.. you're essentially saying it's ok for untrained pilots to clog the airwaves....at least that you might have agreed upon....mirrors.
