Finally saw some court vs Phoenix. He looked out of it most of the time though, even stealing a rebound from Yi who could've easily dunked the ball had Sean not interfered. I don't blame him, though, he's trying hard to prove himself. His insecurity is evident though (check out his two jerky turnaround fadeaways from mid-range...one somehow found its way in), and that's a problem. How can Sean get back to form? Does Frank give him more minutes despite underperformance in order for Sean to gain his confidence back? All questions which need to be answered, because if Frank isn't willing to let him play or he keeps on playing horrible basketball when he does get opportunities, it's time for a trade.

He stole a rebound from Yi which could have resulted in a ferocious putback by Yi and Injured Vince. That about sums it up for what he did tonight.

He didn't make the rookie mistakes he made last year, and made an effort to box out opponents. He had a net positive this game. That double-clutch jumper was a pretty ridiculous shot, but I wouldn't make anything conclusive out of it. That was luck.

Talking about stealing a rebound that could have resulted in a dunk is garbage analysis. "Hey Sean could have scored 30 points this game so he played awesome!"

Oh come on GMJ Yi had the ball in his hands above the rim. I would have dunked that (if I could get that high) :(

As I said, the effort was there, but the confidence was not.

You are better than that!

Lol I was going to use that one but decided to use the other one.

People forget how good Kidd made everyone look on the court by playing to their strenghts. Frank keeps using Sean on the post, which isn't playing to his strenght, Sean is undersized and outweighed in those situations that why he looks lost. Also rember Frank plays a lot of mind games with players.

God forbid a guy go for a ball aggressively.

Sometimes guys knock into each other too. I find it odd that it's usually Vince who gets hobbled, too.

exactly!

sean doesnt ever need to touch the ball while in the post unless its for a lob. he is best used on the break and dives to the basket off screens and picks.

Agreed. I also think Frank subbed him in late too. I would have like to see him guard Amare some instead of Shaq. Or have Lopez and Him switch back and forth so Lopez can stay on the court.

Superb, you are right. Where were the Pick and rolls with Boone, Sean and Lopez. Shaq is terrible at defending the Pick and Rolls.

Anderson, Sean and Lopez would have been nice to see. The other thing is why didnt Frank put Najera in early to guard Amare too. I know he is still recovering but to atleast show the guys this is how it is done.

Of course Frank still is "seeing what he has".

Good idea, except sean has not shown the fast break type speed that would allow him to flourish in the fast break, he's no Kmart. Additionally, he fumbles about 80% of the passes he gets in tight situations, so giving him the ball off picks and screens will usually end up in turnovers. He just needs to get better, plain and simple. And it's tough to utilize a guys offensive strengths when he has almost none to speak of.

It was funny, I was looking down and I heard a loud cheer from the crowd to see Sean Williams ready to check in...I didn't know fans felt that strongly about playing him. Me personally I didn't see anything in pre-season that warranted him to get more play over anyone else. And when I saw him yawn last week in the season opener while in the team huddle I didnt wonder anymore why he wasnt getting minutes.

About sums it up.

I think they HAVE to give him a lot more minutes. He's not getting better through practice or on the bench. This team is not going anywhere anyway, let him play. I know Najera plays hard, yada yada, but I could care less if he never played and Williams should not sit at his expense. At least try to develop this guy who you drafted high and still has upside.

They certainly don't HAVE to give him minutes. Minutes are earned, not given. He has done nothing to earn them. He is the worst player on the roster.

Every player who has had trouble getting into Frank's rotation and has gone elsewhere has done even less for his new team.

Hassan Adams - Started for Nets. Nothing since.

Zoran Planinic - Europe

Marcus Williams - Played important playoff minutes under Frank. Currently behind Thunder the Mascot on Warriors depth chart.

Jamaal Magliore - Corpse

Antoine Wright - Option not picked up. Still worthless. Couldn't find the basket if his head were inside of it.

My rule of thumb is that if a lot of people on this board complain that a player deserves more minutes, he should be traded immediately.

He certainly should be traded immediately. Trade him while there are still teams willing to gamble on his potential.

He's not going to get better through practice alone. He needs minutes, and the guys in front of him other than Lopez are only marginally better than he is. Do we really care if we win 25 games rather than 20? He's definitely not the worst player on the team. He can be a game changer if used right, and is their most athletic player. Every big guy they have is a below avg. big man, even Boone. There is nothing to lose by playing him. You can't truly evaluate him by 2 minutes here, 3 minutes there. Those guys you mentioned (Planinic, Wright, etc.) were all given lots of chances, a painful amount. Williams had a decent run for awhile when he was starting last year and didn't kill them. This is a lottery team, he needs to be in the rotation.

At the expense of who? Take Najera out of the equation. You have Boone, Yi, Lopez, and Anderson that are all deserving of minutes over Williams. Najera will probably get minutes at the expense of Anderson and Simmons.

You can absolutely get a sense of a player through practice.

Najera is not playing the 3, he's at the 4. There is room to work him in at the 4 with Anderson and Yi. If Anderson isn't hitting his shot, he doesn't do much out there.

You just said all three of those guys are at the 4.

And that statement about Anderson is ridiculous. He is a much better ball handler, shooter, scorer, rebounder, defender and passer than Williams.

Hurts his trade value.

So do DNPs. And it looks like he's got a lot of those coming. Better off getting PT in the D-League than warming up the bench for VC's next finger jam.

EDIT: Before maxamillion/FOMW/other notable VC fanatics start shooting steam out of their ears, I need to make clear that I fully appreciate having VC on the team and I think he's a brave man for playing through his injuries. Thanks in advance guys.

Yeah I'd definitely be for putting Sean in the D-League. He'd miss out on competing against pro-level talent...but he is now by sitting on the bench. Plus, he needs to get his fundamentals down, which he can do by playing against D-League talent.

The d league would help him, but there always is a chance of injury there. Its a rough league.
But Sean is a project signed till the end of next yo ear. I wouldn't mind sending him down there for say a month to get his act together. Right now i'm real impressed with Ryan and Brook and Yi. They are playing well and are progressing from the summer league to the preseason now to regular season and contributing good numbers. Maybe not enough now to win, but they are getting better with each minute they play. Sean is not taking advantage of his minutes to contribute to the team right now
