You guys are way too hard on Hurd and Calabro. Mike and Mike were relics of a past time... they're gone... get over it.

I think, for me, it's the realization that they are going towards a generation younger than I. If hurd just talks basketball and stops trying to make a nickname for everything on the court, I'm cool with him. Otherwise, he's trying to dumb down the broadcast when his basketball input is really good.

I really wanted Calabaro cause of how I liked his calls on national radio. As a local guy, he's not good at all. I have no idea what switched, but to me he's not the right fit.

All fair points, Strenuus. That feeling of growing beyond the younger demographic is a difficult one, so I empathize.

I think Hurd is a bright guy with a rather clever sense of humor and the ability to intertwine modern lingo with what is, ostensibly, an old tradition in the city of Portland (a Blazers Basketball broadcast).

I have listened to a lot of the best Calabro calls on YouTube, and in a lot of ways, I agree with your sentiment on him. I do think he's capable of more, but I also think a lot of it is due to not yet having the opportunity to be the voice of the Trail Blazers while they're actually on an elite run towards a title. I guarantee, if that ever happens during his tenure, people will fall in love with him and never want him to move back to the Seattle franchise he'd inevitably leave us for.

"I liked what NO just did there"

calabro, you fucking jackass. who the hell are you announcing and rooting for??? sure as hell isn't the blazers.

"Cousins has been good tonight."

No shit Sherlock, he's one of the best centers in the NBA! He's good every night.

See what I'm talking about when I say they get hate for the stupidest shit ?

Damn u want him to be all the way homer huh? Eww

Give me the fair guy all the time, I don’t like those irrational homer fans who can’t even be objective once in a blue moon

Thank you

Thank you
You sir, are correct. Have you tried watching the Rockets broadcast? Holy shit. I end up watching a lot of opposing team's feeds and there are only two that I can't watch: Rockets and Celtics. The Houston feed is so homerish that I just can't even listen to it. Boston's feed is just Tommy Heinsohn being a Masshole. We have it good.

Four games in and someone is already saying "Season almost over" damn soccer mom fans. :breakdance:

I never cared much for the Mike’s. Barrett was as cntertaining as vanilla, Rice’s obsession with players haircuts wasn’t as funny as he thought. The combination felt very small town. The complaining in here seems to have more to do with change than actual quality. It’s kinda like Van Halen vs Van Hagar. It’s just different. (let’s just ignore Gary Cherone that’s what’s happening on the radio right now).

It's funny to hear people who complained about how much Mike and Mike were homers now praise them for being good.

I wasnt the biggest fan of Calabro and Hurd last year. But I'm happy with them now. I'd still rather have Barrett paired up with one of them, but Calabro and Hurd are enjoyable now.

Almost as if they just take contrarian positions against something the team does...

If anything, I think Calabro has swung a little too hard to the homer side in his first broadcasts of this year. He's really turning up his hype when a Blazer does something good. And ever since middle last season, I thought Hurd was going to grow into an excellent color guy.

And if Mike Barrett can somehow swing getting an MLB team to Portland, then I retroactively cheer his firing by the Blazers.

I think the main thing missing right now is that years of rapport from working together almost exclusively. The Mikes has that which accounted for some entertaining banter. Callabro and Hurd still sound a little forced that way but it’s smoothing out. And Brooke really seems integral in the team more than any sideline reporter I can remember.

Yeah I’m over calabro. In a vacuum he’s good, would be a solid national broadcaster, but dude, feel free to get excited about the home team. For example, his call on the Vonleh dunk from today. Zzzzzzzz.

Starting to make me miss Barrett, who I wasn’t crazy about either.

They got pretty hyped about the Nurk And1. They actually get pretty hyped about a lot of plays but w/e, you see what you want to see

After watching a couple of nationally broadcast games, We should feel grateful for what we have. A great balance of play by play and color commentating that is far superior to many of the broadcasting crews around.

Always have love for the Mikes, but nothing remains forever and it could have been much worse as shown by espn and tnt.
I really like these guys.

They’re much much better than listening to the players only broadcasts. How many times did we have to hear Isaiah Thomas talk about Dwyane Wade’s “wine”?

Or how he would stop a player if he was in the game? The game isnt even close to the same anymore. He would have fouled out by halftime without major adjustments from the 80’s style he was used to.

those guys rambled on an on and weren't interested in broadcasting the game.

I like that Calabro and Hurd mostly keep it upbeat and fun sometimes to a fault. I think they are settling in as many fans are with them.

I like Hurd quite a bit, Calabro has a good voice for it, but also seems to get things wrong quite frequently. I think they're getting better overall though.

It's always interesting at the start of the season when NBA league pass has a free week and you get an opportunity to listen to other teams broadcasters. We have been fortunate in that department compared to many of the other broadcasting teams as there are some really bad ones. mike and Mike were solid and easy to listen to and Calabro and Hurd have gotten much better.

OMG, listening to Isaiah ... I thought I was being punished for a life's worth of sins.

Players only broadcasts are a joke to the media industry. Maybe we should have them televise games between ESPN broadcasters and TNT and let the players only do those games.
