"The Blazers’ problematic 10-year, $120-million deal with Comcast expires after 2016-17. Sources say the team will announce within a week or two they’ll join Mariners-owned ROOT Sports Northwest on a partnership with enhanced distribution of Blazers games.

The attractive part of ROOT Sports, which the Mariners own 71 percent of, is that DirecTV is a 29 percent minority partner. DirecTV uses a satellite-based distribution system blanketing a multi-state territory that includes Oregon and Washington."

Paul Allen to purchase Mariners and Root TV. :MARIS61:

A couple of things, Root only broadcasts in 720p, and when is their contract up with Comcast? I could see Comcast being jerks and suddenly Root is no longer available.

Calabro's employment with the Blazers is going to be very short if he keeps leaking shit to the Seattle Times.

If comcast cuts root sports, the blazers will have egg on their faces again.
Root and Blazers are lIterally, no exaggeration, the only reason why I pay $120 a month for cable. If they cut them, my decision would be SO easy.

Omg omg omg yes please yes yes yes yes

Directv and dish are just as bullshit of companies as comcast.

Its gonna be a hip hip hooray for those that have directv (who still doesnt have pac12 network right? Or was that dish) but who the fuck cares now. Hopefully playstation vue carries root soon? Cause they dont currently.

I hate satellite tv, personally.

This better happen. My time in exile may almost be over!!! (Sucks for you guys having to deal with me again though)

Might wanna renegotiate there.

Im paying $79.99/month not including taxes for 75mb/s internet and cable with hbo and streampix with comcast on a two year no adjustment contract

Yeah directv still doesnt have pac12. Which is funny, i thought comcast was the one being complete assholes and directv was the innocent bystander?

Directv wont even engage with pac12 network, at least thats what it sounds like.

Hulu will have a tv service out by then, and Directv will have an internet tv service out by then, so hopefully they won't be able to fuck fans as much as Comcast did ten years ago and there will be more options for Root. The Pac 12 channel thing is bullshit though, hopefully Playstation Vue can get it in the next several months.

If comcast hypothetically got rid of root. And ps vue never got it. I would just not watch any of the games other than ones available to me. And i wouldnt bitch about it cause oh well.

Id switch to directv if i really wanted to watch the games. But not until they got pac12 network themselves.

What's wrong with 720p? ABC broadcasts in 720p, too. It's common to broadcast sports in 720p.

http://hometheater.about.com/od/hometheatervideobasics/qt/720p-Vs-1080p.htm

Television broadcasters and cable/satellite providers send out their programming in several resolutions. For example ABC and FOX (which includes their cable channels, such as ESPN, ABC Family, etc...) use 720p, while most other providers, such as PBS, NBC, CBS, CW, TNT, and most premium services, such as HBO, use 1080i.

(1080p vs 720p depends on your distance from the screen and the encoded bandwidth. 720p can be better picture quality because a 10mbit 720p stream has less information lost than 1080p at 10mbit).

F-ck. I though Direct TV was caving in to Pac-12 Network. Then I saw what they were demanding..... and the local sports fan gets screwed again.

I demand at least 5000p.

Color is optional.

5000p black and white.

Comcast isn't gonna cut Root Sports! Calm down, you all acting like Crapzano with conspiracy shit like that.
Hmm, I don't know... I think it is highly plausible. Lets not give Comcast too much credit (any credit is too much).

How does it work in markets without Comcast? Are games blacked out on league pass for all networks or is there a chance they wont be blacked out with ROOT?

If true, it will certainly be a happy day in the barfo household when we say goodbye to comcast.

barfo

I have dish with the sport package that cost me extra 13 dollars a month I get PAC 12 and NW Roots.
