Well thank you very much for stepping forward. I did already know about the anatomy part. The clarification was more about the Physiological, I should think a Lesbian would be less likely to be caught by accident and more likely to plan a conception and therefore, more likely to have a handle on the insurance or not thing. But perhaps that is asking for too much clarification.

Well there's rape and incest.

Crandc, was talking about changing insurance companies in the middle of pregnancies and calling them pre-existing conditions. Her co-worker's husbands had insurance so they were lucky to be double covered, her point was - what if they hadn't been married?

If she was talking about lesbian women with planned pregnancies it could be insemination or the good old fashioned way I would assume... I have no way of answering that. But I think you're probably correct in assuming they would likely have a handle on paying for it because the would have to go outside of their norm to conceive. They literally have to plan parenthood.

And you thought the sight of Lady Gaga in a meat dress was horrifying!
You're one of the few on here that can look at a major problem or issue and not try to apply tired political ideology to it. I respect the hell of out of that.
That's because life hasn't beat the objectivity out of him yet.......

Many years of having an uber liberal mother and uber conservative father. I like to mess with people sometimes so i'll come up with arguments against conservatives or liberals for fun. @riverman used to be one of my favorites to give crap too but now he is too fucking good at giving it back. Good work @riverman.

Also, meeting people really does humanize things. If people had legit convos with us in person, they wouldn't be so fucking angry all the time.

I know right?!? Crandc and I come from a generation where insurance covered every prescription, even testosterone for impotent men, except for "The Pill" and we had to include that expensive monthly prescription in the budget even though we made less money than our male counterparts. Now, granted, we're both college educated professional women who were able to consistently manage that but this is a disaster for our sisters without that kind of opportunity and earning capacity.

When I graduated college, Spud, Washington was deep in recession, double digit unemployment. I worked minimum wage and part time for years. Just having a degree does not mean affluent, although everything you say is true generally. And you left out that insurance companies charged women more for the same coverage.

We had a baby in 1981. The hospital bill was $2800, including the deluxe birthing suite and a few days' hospital stay.

Then government got involved and now a similar birth costs $30,000+.

Thanks Obama.

And buh bye.

How's your dad doing?

Really good, thanks for asking. We had a third fall yesterday morning but the paramedics didn't transport him and we went to his already scheduled appointment later that day. We think it's a reaction to a medication he was taking for his memory. He kept coming up with low sodium at the hospital so we think it was leg cramps (or Charlie Horses) taking him down. I don't know if any of you have had a Charlie Horse but I get them in the middle of the night sometimes and they are excruciating! We're taking him off the one medication and decreasing his BP medication by half (it can cause dehydration) and got him some magnesium. It really seems to be helping with the cramps, he had a couple little ones today but he was able to stand up and get the muscle to relax. He and Mom have had a rough week but they are STRONG!!! They both stayed so calm and I know this had to be so scary for them, Dad is 82 and Mom is 75... but I think, hopefully, we're done with the paramedics for a while.

Sounds like my in-laws. They seem so brittle these days. It's hard to watch.

Ouch!

I get charlie horses every so often, I find that bananas help. Also if it was a particularly bad one (I get them in my calfs) putting a salonpas there is fricking amazing.

Yes but I'm in a very fortunate situation where we have them in a beautiful retirement community that has all the levels of care including memory care. My parents can never be separated and it's one of those situations where you buy kind of an insurance that, even if you completely run out of money, you can't be kicked out because they are putting money into a trust. I won't have to worry about keeping up my parents house and they have medical staff there all the time. My parents were very smart about saving for retirement and couldn't be in a better situation. I am much more fortunate than most to not have to worry it at all.

My in-laws have lied in their house for 45 years. It's tough on them because of the stairs. They're looking at moving into either a condo or assisted living facility. Dad's fallen a few times from mini strokes, even down the stairs once or twice. Mom has onset alzheimer's, but she's still herself. She always had memory issues, calling my wife by her sister's name all the time.

Those assisted living places need to be thoroughly vetted, though. My brothers and sisters in law still live there so they're keeping an eye on them.
