As we all know by now, Jason Kidd made this bold prediction about them going back to the Finals. Can they really do it considering that the East now have a stronger field? What made Jason believe that they have what it takes to make it to the Finals for a third year in a row?
1. They have Frankenstein:
"This is a great show. Have you ever seen this before?"
-- New head coach Lawrence Frank, to his wife Susan two years ago, while watching a "Seinfeld" rerun, according to the Feb. 12 USA Today. The incident was an example of how immersed Frank is in basketball.
Really guys, who would've thought that a person who isn't good enough to be in his high school team will turn a team around? If you know that this guy spends most of his life in the film room watching game tapes, then you'll know what he's talking about. He has led the team to 9 straight victories. Each one a blowout. He has the respect of each and every player and he doesn't have an ounce of over-confidence in his body. He always credit the players for each and every time. He draws up perfect plays. Try to watch the team after every timeout and you'll see a perfect execution of a play. He's able to make key adjustments. He even outcoached Jeff Van Gundy- the man he's always compared with after he made some key adjustments. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Frank Revolution.
2. Motivation and Swagger:
It's back y'all. The team is motivated than ever. You can see them pumped up each and every game. Everyone was saying that the swagger wasn't there when they're losing. But now, it's back. You can see K-Mart dunking with authority then letting out a yell afterwards. You can see Jefferson and Kittles calmly draining jumpers. It's scary.
3. Maturity:
Picture this. K-Mart jumped perfectly to block a shot at it's highest peak. What did he do? For those of you who didn't see it, you'll assume that the ball will end up on the third row. But not this year. K-Mart was mature enough to let go of the bragging rights that he swatted the ball away to the stands. He blocked the ball and he made sure that it stayed alive. He swatted it to his teammate Jason Kidd who started the break. The team in itself matured greatly. There were games that they were down at the half but they were mature enough to win the game in blow out fashion.
3. The Nets Defense:
Each and every team used to discuss this before every game. They will have a battle plan on how to break the Nets defense. But not during the first quarter of the season. Shooters will have a heydey shooting a wide open jumper because the defense was lost. Teams will get 3-4 tries on the offensive end because no one among the Nets could get the defensive board. But not anymore. The Nets that we're seeing now are the Nets that we all know. They will clog up the passing lane. You can see everyone contesting every jumpshots. K-Mart and the others are battling bigger guys for the board. The Nets defense is back that leads to...
4. The Nets Fastbreak:
Who's not afraid of the Nets break? Sure it's a beauty to watch, but a nightmare for the opposing team. Teams will have their tongue hanging by the half after trying to keep up with the Nets. They will try to slow down the game to no avail. Jason Kidd tries to run the break each and every play and with K-Mart, Jefferson and Kittles perfectly complimenting Kidd, WATCH OUT BELOW!
5. The Nets' Big Three:
Where else can you see three players complimenting greatly with each other. I'm sure you can argue with 2-3 teams having it but these three are perfect examples of a "Big Three". No one among the three averages more than 20ppg. They enjoy playing with each other. Kidd will help K-Mart and Jefferson get their points by setting up plays for them. K-Mart and Jefferson will help Kidd get his assists by perfectly timing themselves to be at the right place at the right time. K-Mart will help Kidd start the break with a block or a rebound. K-Mart will help Jefferson drain the jumper with a perfect pick. The bottomline is, they make each other look good.
6. The Nets Playoffs Greatness:
From the looks of it, all the Nets have to do is get in the playoffs and it's in the bag. They proved it to everyone by sweeping/beating the teams last season. They have a great leader who'll take over games by shooting the game-winner or giving the game-winning assist. It's going to happen again this year.
Watch out everyone. The Beast of the East is back!
