The Rockets picked up their option to extend coach Rick Adelman's contract for another season as expected last week

That sucks. IMO Adelman was one of the best (and the best attainable) candidate out there to replace Nate next season, if he decides not to stay or KP doens't feel he's a championship coach (I don't).

This may not be a popular opinion, but I thought adelman was a horrible coach when he was here. he was able to coach a team that would do well during the regular season (run and gun style) but never could coach a half-court offense and get us over the hump. I think if we had a better coach with the team we had here, we would have won a championship.

I actually thought the Kings team he coached, with Bibby, Webber, Divac, Christie and Peja was one of the best half court offensive teams I've watched play.

Adelman has grown a lot as a coach since then. His Sacramento years where he brought Pete Carril in to be the offensive guru matured his half court coaching abiltiies a lot. The funny thing is, Portlands half court offense isn't the problem. It's getting Portland to get the easy buckets.

He is probably in the top 5 active coaches in the league and is the second best Blazer coach of all time behind only Dr. Jack. Period.

that is why I specifically said when he was here. he had no half court offense. I literally watched and went to almost all the games during that time.

Adelman? I'm not the least bit depressed about not getting him back. I disagree with Nate on a few points, but he's definitely gotten a lot out of these Blazer teams. We are lucky to have him.

It is a different situations IMO. One team lost it's main stars, the other, did not.

That is true, but at the same time they knew going into the season those guys were down. We didn't go into the season expecting to lose both centers, the backup PF, 2 rookies and the backup SG for stretches of the season.

I view that point as moot. When your main stars are down it is a much larger impact to a franchise than role players going out. Keeping a team which has lost it's main stars is much more challenging than keeping a team going that has lost role players. In one situation, you have 2 guys you can count on to carry the load. In the other, you don't have anybody you can count on to carry the load, and no matter of pre season preparation will change that.
