From the Sacramento Bee:

Armed with an electrifying proposal from two wealthy California power brokers, Sacramento made a bid Thursday to keep the NBA in the city.

Southern California supermarket tycoon Ronald Burkle, in partnership with well-connected Sacramento lobbyist and developer Darius Anderson, emerged as last-minute potential saviors of the NBA in Sacramento. The duo said they would lead a group that could purchase the Kings – or buy another team for the city should the Kings move to Anaheim.

Very interesting.

I hope they stay. I hate the idea of three teams in one metro area when so many places that could use an NBA franchise.

As an aside, isn't Ron Burkle the guy that pals around with Bill Clinton? I've heard stories that they fly on his private jet with Playboy bunnies and models and put notches in their mile high club belts.

That is a local newspaper trying to stay positive. I have heard from people in the orginization that it is a done deal! They were told to start looking for new jobs.

In all fairness, this is pretty breaking news. Kevin Johnson pretty much pulled a proverbial rabbit out of the hat at the NBA meetings. It may HAVE been a done deal in the eyes of the organization, but this new development may be enough to make the Board vote against relocation... and if THAT happens, Johnson should be annointed Mayor For Life in that city.

He should be elected Gov. for life for that dunk he put down on Hakeem!!!

serious? easily one of the best poster dunks in history.

Yeah, they're still moving - but here's a possibility for a Hornets relocation to Cali....

Wouldn't the Hornets go to San Jose? That would be a f'ing travesty, not for San Jose but for California getting the monopoly on west coast teams.

ironic that clay bennett is heading up the relocation committee.

cant really force the maloofs to sell...

You can't force them at all. BUT... You can vote against the move. If that happens, then the Maloofs are stuck keeping the team in SacTown. Maybe then, they would sell.

THe NBA wants a new arena and Sacramento is one of the most financially fucked areas in the USA. they're good as gone.

This guy has a money?!

They can't force them to sell, but they can force them to stay. Seriously, the NBA is losing its roots and I think it's bullshit. Why not just relocate all the teams to NY, Chicago, and LA and call it good.

Here's a few comments on this from Adrian Wojnarowski's Twitter feed:

"There wasn't an instance of honesty in Bennett's move of the Sonics out of Seattle. Documents proved it. Now he's lording over Kings future."

"Clay Bennett's chairing the NBA's relocation committee. Jackie Sherrill can run the NBA's next investigation into illegal predraft workouts."

And my favorite:

"Only in the NBA could Clay Bennett become head of the relocation committee. What next? Donald Sterling running diversity training seminars?"

More from Adrian Wojnarowski:

"Don't underestimate the power of Lakers owner Jerry Buss with Stern and ownership peers. Buss will do anything to keep Kings out of SoCal."

David Stern names Clay Bennett head of the relocation committee. (<--not joking)

I'm sure this will go over well with Seattle.

**edit**

Just noticed it was already posted. Moving on...
