Send Rudy to the D league

After todays latest escapade I've seen enough of Fernandez bizarre behavior. No doubt the childish pouting and whining is designed to encourage the Blazers to release Fernandez from his contract so he can return home to Spain and to Momma and Marta. And his antics have sabotaged any chance of a decent trade.

There is no reason the team should in anyway encourage other agents and players to engage in this kind of crap by letting Fernandez out of his contract.

I say send him to Boise, to play for the Idaho Stampede. He can play in the D-league and sleep in cheap hotel rooms and ride around in crappy old busses until his contract expires or he removes his head from his arse.

As a 3rd-year player, I don't think he's eligible to be sent there.

Only players with fewer than two years' experience may be assigned to an NBA D-League team, and each player can be assigned no more than three times per season. If an active player is assigned, he is automatically placed on the team's Inactive List. There is no minimum or maximum length of an NBA D-League assignment, and players have 48 hours to report to the NBA D-League team once they are assigned. Players continue to receive their NBA salary while assigned to the NBA D-League.

Bah there is no use in beating on Rudy. IMO it wasn't a real surprise that his back got hurt for another reason. The fact that he hurt it before, and I have seen many NBA players who have hurt their backs get chronic back problems like that, through their whole career after the initial back injury. So yea Rudy has been being a jerk off. But I also think there is a distinct possibility the injury is real, and so I will give him the benefit of the doubt.

What exactly is he supposed to have done wrong? Should he NOT have tried to block the shot? Should HE have somehow managed not to be undercut? Are you seriously suggesting that he's faking his back hurting for some reason?

Even if he were, how many vets who actually WANT to play on their teams find ways of skipping part of training camp?

Can we all get over talking about Rudy for a while? I don't get the outrage. How 'bout we talk about players likely to be on the team?

Responding with consequences is appropriate with children and Spanish basketball players who act out.

I'll echo most of what you said. I know there's a groundswell of opinion that he's faking an injury -- I admit that my mind did go there when I first heard about the fall -- but in this instance I actually believe he's not sandbagging and really did take a bad fall, which is a legitimate reason to hold him out. I just find it incredibly ironic that most thought he'd loaf it in practice and might need to be suspended and instead he's supposedly playing hard and gets shelved due to an injury and the result is the same; he's not playing.

I also agree with you about moving on from Rudy, there are some far more interesting stories I'd rather discuss, that could be developing in camp that will have a greater impact on the ultimate success of the team: Miller and Roy maybe playing well together? Can Bayless adequately play the "point" or is Armon Johnson going to threaten his position? Can LMA play on the low block and be a reliable post scorer with Oden out for an indeterminate period? What kind of player is Wesley Matthews going to be? etc.

I'd be in favor of sending him to the D-League if he was eligible and I thought he really was sandbagging it, learning a little humility wouldn't hurt. The 'blurry vision' thing the 1st day of camp gives me questions, but as the owner of craptastic back myself I'd have to say I'm not so skeptical of this latest one, taking a good fall onto your back is a pretty reliable way to end up in pain.

All excellent questions. Maybe you should go on a thread-starting spree with all of them. As an added bonus, it might help drown out the "bullshit" that is engulfing the board at the moment.

I would like to point that the bolded part might actually be "Rudy" related - because without Rudy on the roster, you could play JB in what might just be his best position on the 2nd team (SG) next to Armon.

I think JB' PG position play might actually make more sense next to a good handling playmaker SG like Roy, we have already seen that JB/Rudy as the two guards on the 2nd team is not exactly a recipe for success...
