Then-Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) spoke twice last year with Russia’s ambassador to the United States, Justice Department officials said, encounters he did not disclose when asked about possible contacts between members of President Trump’s campaign and representatives of Moscow during Sessions’s confirmation hearing to become attorney general.

One of the meetings was a private conversation between Sessions and Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak that took place in September in the senator’s office, at the height of what U.S. intelligence officials say was a Russian cyber campaign to upend the U.S. presidential race.

The previously undisclosed discussions could fuel new congressional calls for the appointment of a special counsel to investigate Russia’s alleged role in the 2016 presidential election. As attorney general, Sessions oversees the Justice Department and the FBI, which have been leading investigations into Russian meddling and any links to Trump’s associates. He has so far resisted calls to recuse himself.

At his Jan. 10 Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing, Sessions was asked by Sen. Al Franken, a Minnesota Democrat, what he would do if he learned of any evidence that anyone affiliated with the Trump campaign communicated with the Russian government in the course of the 2016 campaign.

“I’m not aware of any of those activities,” he responded. He added: “I have been called a surrogate at a time or two in that campaign and I did not have communications with the Russians.”

This is George W. Bush's ethics lawyer:

I'm sure it was innocent. After all, the white house was very forthright in telling us that Flynn was just wishing the Russians merry xmas.

So they definitely wouldn't be lying now about what Sessions talked to the Russians about. And Sessions probably just forgot that he'd ever spoken to any Russians. I mean, who remembers things like that?

Nope, nothing to see here!

Curious why the guys on here that support Trump no matter what he says or does have not replied to this thread? I asked them in another thread what it would take for them to stop supporting him.

What would the Lakers have to do for you to stop loving them?

WASHINGTON—U.S. investigators have examined contacts Attorney General Jeff Sessions had with Russian officials during the time he was advising Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, according to people familiar with the matter.

The outcome of the inquiry, and whether it is ongoing, wasn’t clear, these people said. The contacts were being examined as part of a wide-ranging U.S. counterintelligence investigation into possible communications between members of Mr. Trump’s campaign team and Russian operatives, they said.

Sessions was a weak pick.

Two things

1) bad shit lying in sworn testimony to congress

2) Holy fuck there have been a lot of leaks in Trump's team.

Was he a member of Trumps campaign though?

This may be one of those "it depends on what your definition of is, is" scenarios

Kind of doesn't matter since he said he didn't have any contact with the russians. That's a lie even if he wasn't working for trump.

The 80s called and wants their foreign policy back.

"In that campaign...."

Cognitive dissonance - those who despise Hillary for her sliminess and then excuse Trump and his team of shitsters

Like Larry Wildman driving off a cliff in my new masarati.

When Sessions spoke with Kislyak in July and September, the senator was a senior member of the influential Armed Services Committee as well as one of Trump’s top foreign policy advisers. Sessions played a prominent role supporting Trump on the stump after formally joining the campaign in February 2016.

I was a Bernie dude. You would have gone with Trump no matter who the Democrats elected.

Dems fucked themselves over this election cycle. No one wanted Hilary. That should have been clear.
I may have voted for Biden. But I got in a self destruction mode for the country so I voted out of spite,
