Politics Sessions met with Russian envoy twice last year, encounters he later did not disclose

Sessions meetings with Russian ambassador not on his calendar. All other meetings with ambassadors are on his calendar. His staff had no knowledge of his meetings with Russian ambassador.

Do you think it was a clandestine meeting in his office?

Thing is, what they say happened DIDN'T HAPPEN. He was asked if he spoke with the Russians about the campaign, and he said no. Then they pointed at two conversations he had with the Russian Ambassador as part of his job as a senior member of the Armed Services Committee, and started shouting "He said he didn't talk to the Russians!"

It's the politics of personal destruction techniques that Clinton perfected when he was in office. It doesn't matter what's true, it only matters what we can make people think is true by sheer repetition.

This.

And untrue, he just said on his presser, he had 2 senior staffers there and a junior staffer.

Well, Sessions just recused himself from all current and future FBI investigations into Russia and trump campaign ties.

It's a first step, but I'd love a special prosecutor

To find what? Don't you guys get it, nothing happened. This Russian thing is literally FAKE news. There was no Russian/Trump collusion to "hack" the election.

What the hell are they all talking to the Russians about???

I call BS on your take MarAzul, Blue 32 etc. If Chelsea Clinton, and Eric Holder, and Bill Clinton, whoever - were all talking to the Russians - and then lying about it before Congress! - you would be calling for their heads. And rightfully so.

For the job Sessions is stepping into...lying under oath to the governing body sort of loses you the job...huge red flag...he needs to simply resign and accept the pardon from Trump. If you're draining swamps, you need to unclog the drain sometimes

I'll confess ignorance on the finer points of the duties of the Armed Services Committee members, but I wasn't under the impression it was their job to meet with foreign diplomats. That's the Secretary of State and the Executive Branch's balliwick. Right?

I found that a little strange myself, I could be misremembering which committee he was working for at the time.

I call BS on your take MarAzul,

Call whatever you want. But what is to worry, we got a reset with Russia, right!

The Trump administration says Attorney General Jeff Sessions was acting as a then-U.S. senator when he talked to Russia’s ambassador at an event during last year’s Republican National Convention in Cleveland, but Mr. Sessions paid for convention travel expenses out of his own political funds and he spoke about Donald Trump’s campaign at the event, according to a person at the event and campaign-finance records.

Mr. Sessions made comments related to Mr. Trump’s presidential campaign at a Heritage Foundation event during the Republican convention in July, when he met with Russian Ambassador Sergei Kislyak, according to a person at the event in Cleveland.

...

Campaign-finance-disclosure records show Mr. Sessions’ re-election campaign account was used for travel expenses in Cleveland at the same time the Republican National Convention was held in July, rather than using official funds that would pay for travel by him or other members of the Senate Armed Services Committee.

On July 16, two days before the convention began, his campaign account made two payments of $1,395 to the Sheraton Cleveland Airport. A week later, the account made two payments to the Westin Hotel in Cleveland totaling $223. All payments were described as for “lodging.”

No payments reimbursing Mr. Sessions appear in Mr. Trump’s campaign account, the records show.

Sarah Isgur Flores, a spokeswoman for Mr. Sessions, said she was unable to comment on his convention expenses.

Larry Noble, general counsel at the Campaign Legal Center, a nonpartisan advocacy group, said Mr. Sessions likely used his campaign account, rather than official Senate funds, because as a senior adviser to the Trump campaign it would have been difficult to argue that he wasn’t attending the convention for any political purpose.

“If he was truly there solely as a member of the Armed Services Committee, then he could’ve used his legislative account,” Mr. Noble said.

One person at the Heritage event in Cleveland said Mr. Sessions left the impression he was there because of his role in the Trump campaign. This person said Mr. Sessions’ remarks in part were focused on Mr. Trump’s trade policy, saying the then-candidate would do away with multilateral trade deals.

Ms. Flores, Mr. Sessions’ spokeswoman, said the attorney general’s aides, who were at the Heritage Foundation event, don’t recall Mr. Sessions speaking about the election with Mr. Kislyak, though they couldn’t be sure, because the room was loud.

So, let me get this straight, because it's very confusing:

1. Sessions is accused of lying in his Senate confirmations about speaking with Russian officials
2. This is fake news, because he actually meant he didn't speak with them on behalf of the Trump campaign
3. He attended the Republican National Convention as a private citizen, paying for it himself rather than from his Senate office, and spoke to Russian officials about the Trump campaign
4. We are all now agreed that him lying is non-fake news

Does that cover it?

You forgot the part where Spicer is going to jump out of a giant Fabergé easter egg for Putin's birthday.

Out of curiosity, has Trump had one negative thing to say about Russia/Putin? I mean, not that it's proof of anything unsavory, but he's got nothing but heat for China, Mexico, Sweden, Australia, whatever, but oddly silent on our "good friends" in the Land of the Firebird.

So, Flynn met with the russians. Sessions met with the russians. Carter Page met with the russians. Kushner met with the russians.

At least 3 of the 4 lied about meeting with the russians.

Yep, nothing to see here...
