In the summer Sharpe will be eligible for an extension.

Franz Wagner signed a 5 year $270 million extension back in July, so with the cap going up 10% per year would Sharpe be eligible for a 5 years $297 million extension this summer?

If Sharpe has decent health and some more performances like last night over the rest of the season it would seem he will be a lock to get the max. Franz Wagner, Desmond Bane, Cade Cunningham, Scottie Barnes, Evan Mobley all got max deals even though they're clearly not yet star players.

Franz contract would be worth $46 million less if he doesn't make an All-NBA team this season. Still, $224 million with a 10% raise comes out to $246 million for Sharpe on the lowest end of a max.

I love the idea of Sharpe as a cornerstone if he plays like last night, but I get super nervous giving out contracts for non-all star players. I remember Blazer fans saying how we should max Meyers Leonard after his 50/40/90 season to avoid him potentially walking.

yeah, if he stays healthy and last night is any indication, he's headed for a huge payday. Rookie extensions are almost always huge for players with major upside

his new contract will start the same off-season that Simons and Ayton will be getting their new deals so maybe that puts even more pressure on Cronin to move those two guys before that happens. I sure hope so

I know I'm in the minority, but I wouldn't spend big on a player with Sharpe's injury history. Sign him to a prove-it deal like Curry did with the Warriors (following his long-running ankle problems), otherwise find a trade partner willing to take that risk.

A prove it deal?

so like a 2 year deal then he walks as an unrestricted free agent?

I'd try to get a discount. Rookie max is 20/25% of the cap. I'd try for 15-17.5%. Would do wonders for team building if he outplays it.

Not worth the max and that's not up for debate.

Don't really care anyway, so there's that. Much more important things going on then a contract on a team.

Why don't you stay out of here and stick to your more important things and leave us alone, Mr GLOBAL MODERATOR.

Same. Maybe do a shorter deal with the same money. No reason without more evidence - he hasn’t earned it yet.

Although he deserves the money more than Evan turner and Simons did.

I read the end of this post in my Wheels voice!
Of course, that would need to be alliterative.

Cocky, condescending, and conceited!
Dismissive, denigrating and disagreeable!
Repellant, rude, and repugnant!
Superior, scornful and sanctimonious!

I think I may try to work some Wheels-esque descriptors into my posts for a little while.

None of the injuries Shaedon has had have ever derailed a career. I think it all depends on this season but if he ends up averaging more than 20ppg on decent shooting numbers and has good representation, I can't see us getting away with anything lower than a max contract extension which is also the most we could give him... unless he goes crazy and ends up being all NBA in which case it would be a supermax extension.

No one talked about career derailment. We’re talking not paying someone purely on unproven, or at least hardly proven potential. He doesn’t deserve a max, yet. It’s insane to think so.

I agree but the new standard unfortunately is that if you are a lottery pick showing lots of potential and promise you get either the rookie max or close to it. See Franz Wagner, Deandre Ayton, garland, lamelo, all with injuries and not playing consistently at an all star level before getting maxed.

but hopefully like I said he takes the Jalen Suggs deal (5 for 150), similar to the Devin vassel 5 for 135 deal or the similar Jaden McDaniels deal.

It just depends on the rest of the season. I wouldn't give him a rookie max extension today but if he can play like he has the last two games for the rest of the season then I don't think our FO will have much of a choice.

If Sharpe can stay healthy I'm convinced he will be a superstar. The Blazers haven't had someone with that kind of athletic ability since Clyde.
I’ve thought the same thing. Been a long while.

It's a "moderator" of the forum that provides zero insight, zero post of substance, while being condescending, dismissive, and rude.

What is crazy is it is clear he is trolling. Per the rules, that isnt acceptable. But the head mod says my behavior is near bannable. I posted facts from a gov website and was called a contrarian for it. I pushed back on that name calling and was told im reaching bannable behavior….
But a mod can just go around belittling season ticket holders, trash the team and only post negative things.
But all is impartial around here. No favoritism or biased moderating/reprimanding at all around here.

I think you have to lock him up regardless of the minor injuries. That could be the reason we lock him up at 5 yrs/$200m and 5 yrs/$270m.

Waiting until his year 4 to do this is going to cost us more in the long run. I don’t think the injuries have been a huge issue, this isn’t Roy and Oden who both had a history of knee issues.

Are you talking about Steph or Seth cause I’m pretty sure that happened in Portland with Seth.

we are not golden state

I was talking about Steph, obviously, with regards to the prove-it deal because of all the ankle problems. I didn't realize you changed it to Seth, who never went the prove-it deal route. It simply took him a long time to carve out enough of a niche to get much of a contract.

I had thought Seth deal in Portland was basically a prove it deal that he recovered from his injury.
