Looks like he is planning on being with the Blazers next season, at least not opting out or accepting a buyout. I don't know his game at all, could ask Felton about him I guess. Just watched some highlights on YouTube, looks like he has a little range on his shot which the Blazers could use. Also looks like he can play a little defense too. It'll be interesting to see how he fits in at the 3/4 with Batum, Babbit, Aldridge and Hickson.

Anyone else have any insight on his game/skills/personality?

he had a horrendous start to this season before getting injured, if hes here hopefully hes the 12th man or so

How would we ask Felton? You have his number rookie?

Does anyone know if Shawne Williams has the right to block a trade because he'd lose his bird rights or something? It'd be real nice to dump is salary on draft day.

He does not have that right.

How much would we save if we used the stretch clause on him?

Almost 2 million, I think. He is set to make I think 3.1, and stretch is double the years plus 1, so would break it out to 1.03 per year.

" Most interesting: We're two weeks away from Shawne Williams officially becoming the first player in five years to play 20-plus minutes a game while submitting a PER under 5. The last guy to do it? Jason Collins in his historic 2007 season: 23.1 minutes per game, an astonishing 3.02 PER. To put that doozy in perspective, John Hollinger rigged his PER engine so that you get a 3.5 just for breathing. Anyway, Williams signed an inexplicably lucrative contract with New Jersey ($6.15 million for two years), then stunk the joint out (20.6 MPG, 28.6% FG, 4.96 PER) for 25 games before getting hurt (he had foot surgery), then got traded (to Portland in the Wallace deal), and yes, he's out for the season. Pour some skunked beer on your own head, Shawne Williams. You made history."

Can we use the stretch on him since it wasn't a new contract? Actually no we can't. I answered that one myself.

It was a new contract, he signed with NJ this past season. So we should be able to. And I imagine barring a trade, we would.

Oh, he signed that this past off season? Awesome

Yeah, just double checked, looks like 2 year deal signed in December this year. So would be eligible, and shave 2 million off. I dunno, then, how it works, I know previously, if you waived someone, the dollar amount they then signed elsewhere for came off your books. So if we just out and out cut him,a nd ate te 3 million,m and he signed for 2 somewhere, we'd only be on the hook for 1. But not sure how that goes with the stretch provision.

But who is going to sign him? I thought he did horrible this season. And why would teams sign him and help the Blazers?

It figures NJ was the team that signed a d league level player to a contract higher than the minimum by a wide margin.

My pinpoint accurate psychic nose for the news informs that the Shawne Williams absence will be an enduring pain in the neck next season. Not talking about him while pretending he is injured will require a large conspiracy among the media and message boards. He will be the anti-Oden. No one will ask where he is or whether he's partying.

Bumped.......

He got arrested and pleads guilty.

Ex-NBA player Shawne Williams has pled guilty to possession of a controlled substance following his December arrest ... when cops busted him for smoking a blunt inside his Porsche.

As TMZ previously reported ... Williams was popped in a parking lot in Tennessee after a cop said he smelled weed coming from inside Williams' Panamera. Williams reportedly confessed to the officer that he had weed and codeine (cough syrup) in his car.

Following the arrest, Williams was charged with possession of a controlled substance (for the weed) and possession with intent to sell (for the codeine).

Williams pled guilty to weed possession today and was sentenced to one day in jail and a $500 fine. He was given credit for time served and has already paid the fee.

The codeine charge was dropped after the passenger in Williams' car claimed it was his ... not Williams'.

The lesson: always have a friend around to share the blame.

I heard rumors that one of the reasons POR wanted to get him to agree to a buyout quickly would be so he wouldn't be around to influence other players in a negative way.

Damn, he's too stupid to get high in someone's house?
