JERUSALEM – Israel's military condemned soldiers for wearing T-shirts of a pregnant woman in a rifle's cross-hairs with the slogan "1 Shot 2 Kills," and another of a gun-toting child with the words, "The smaller they are, the harder it is."

The T-shirts were worn by some Israeli Defense Force soldiers to mark the end of basic training and other military courses, the newspaper Haaretz said.

The appearance of the T-shirts followed allegations of misconduct by Israeli troops during the three-week Gaza war. Palestinian officials say about 1,400 Palestinians were killed, most of them civilians. Thirteen Israelis died, three of them civilians.

they made t shirts that they probably thought were humorous(though obviously in a very politically incorrect way). big deal.

as for the content of the shirts, if you're in the military and a pregnant woman is firing a rifle at you trying to kill you, do you not fire back because she is pregnant? same thing with a child? it's a pretty shitty unfortunate situation to be in, but if it's kill or be killed i think you know what happens there.

now, these people definitely should have known better than making these shirts and should have known exactly what would have happened if they did. but i don't see it being a huge deal. actual allegations of misconduct and intentional killings of civilians are infinitely more important that some stupid t shirt.

I dont think that is what the shirt was implying. I agree anybody shooting a gun is fair game.

the shirt shows a pregnant woman holding a rifle. obviously the 1 shot 2 kills is in horrible taste and it's nothing that should be sanctioned by the israeli army. but i just don't see why some people are making this out to be a huge deal.

I dont think you are right...I cant see one (but I need glasses) and they mention another shirt that has a rifle on it but not this one. Pretty sure she is unarmed in that picture.

i'm pretty sure she has a rifle. the one with a child on it apparently has a rifle as well. i did read though that there is a third shirt with a woman mourning at the sight of a grave. i never saw a picture of it, but i never read that she had a rifle in that one. of the 3, that's the only one i really have a problem with(though like i said before, you'd have to be an idiot to think making these shirts was a good idea).
 
well if she has a rifle in her hand your opinion makes a lot more sense...but yeah, i cant see one

of course, there also are pictures there of the other shirts including ones showing soldiers blowing up mosques.

i still think there are much bigger things to worry about, but i want to know who the fuck thought making these shirts was a good idea.
 
hmm...ive seen two reports that dont say that...I can see some stuff in the pic with her but it doesnt at all look like there is a rifle in the pic. can you see the rifle?

she is holding the rifle in her left hand (on our right) in the air in the corner of the frame.

I think its a stupid shirt, but i'm pro-Isreal.
 
Horribly poor taste.

As a vet... I do know what basic training is about... brainwashing and programming... and they do want to eliminate the consious thought out of you... there can be no hesitation... someone coming at you with gun... you shoot... that is what I *think* that shirt is about... in the context of where those soldiers are at coming out of basic training... good or bad... I get it a *little* bit... but from the context of a civilians eyes... it looks horrible. There have been fake pregnant women involved in suicide attacks in Isreal... so they may not be viewing this shirt literally like we are.
 
Yeah, she's holding a rifle, but that's not the problem.

The Arabs are seen as trying to take back Israel by sheer numbers. Like how conservative pundits worry about too many Latinos being born in America, there is a similar feeling in Israel about Arabs. They are worried about the Arab population growth and I think this is a product of that.
 
Her holding a rifle DOES make a difference in my eyes. I didnt think she was...still pretty fucking lame
 
Well maybe you should all think about the fact you don't understand how much these people hate each other. This shirt pretty much makes that statement straight up. I am not condoning what they do, but if you sit down and actually think about what the shirt says, and how both sides treat each other, it is quite sobering to realize that these people do truly hate each other to the point that they want the other side exterminated. Once you look at that, and then try to realize what hurdles our government has to jump over to try and establish peace in the area, and you begin to realize how truly hard it is. A truly monumental task. The crazy thing is, everybody looks to the U.S.A to lead the situation to peace, and blames us whenever it fails. Damned if you do. Damned if you don't.

Except we have given Israel Nuclear weapons, tanks, and fighter jets to subdue people in shacks who may or may not have an AK-47

We didn't give them nukes, they developed those on their own. We did turn a blind eye though.

Yes they do subdue people in shacks. But they also defended themselves from a multiple country attack at once, from legitimate armed forces of Syria and Egypt. It might have helped if those people in shacks didn't fire missiles into their territory from time to time.

Both sides are to blame. Point fingers all you want. The only way the fighting will stop is if both sides decide they want it to stop. When the people as a majority decide they want it to stop, and take the steps to make it happen (on both sides) it will stop. But not until then.

I also wanted to point out this is another case where once again, religion causes violence. I could only imagine how much less killing there would be in the world if the religious zealots that cause most of the violence were gone.

Tell Israel to stop killing civilians and bulldozing the shack towns of Palestinians and that would go a long way. Obviously Palestinians would like some of their land back. The part that Israelis said was for the Palestinians but then decided to take anyways.

I get that Israel is the only Jewish country surrounded by a bunch of Muslim ones and that could be dicey. I really think they could do themselves a favor by just letting the Palestinians live in peace. Thats what EVERY country that has a problem with Israel is bitching about. You dont have to leave your land, just stop the killing. Nobody Palestinian wants to be a suicide bomber over there, its just out of desperation. What would you want to do if your entire family was killed by soldiers??? Two wrongs dont make a right but its gone waaay past that over there. REAL Israeli and Palestinian peace would do wonders for over there.

What Palestinians are able to do to Israelis is like a flea trying to kick a dogs ass. Its not even close to what the guy with the rocket has had to endure.

How does the asymmetry matter? Do you also believe we weren't justified in going after Al-Qaeda after 9/11? After all, what's a few thousand civilians to a country of 300M people?

So you dont think Palestinians were provoked in any way?

Americans arent trying to take land because of 9/11 and blatantly kill civilians

I see Israel defending itself. I think bulldozing a suicide bomber's property is meant as a disincentive.

And clearly you didn't understand my previous post. The Oslo Accords gave Arafat 98% of what he wanted and he turned it down. The Palestinians aren't interested in peace; they're interested in the destruction of a democratic state.
