Regardless of the season he'll be having should Jeter make the All star game?
 
I agree, fans will drive the vote regardless of the average at the time leading up to the All Star Game.
 
...if he's hitting .240 he'll politely decline the invite.
 
Whether he's hitting .340 or .240 Jeter is either being voted in by the fans, added by the manager or added by the commissioner. And in his last year looking to enjoy everything jeter is not turning down an invite no matter how it comes.

I agree, I think he's going to do everything he can to honor & thank the fans.
 
...IMO, that's not what the All-Star Game is about and that's not what Jeter is about. If he's hitting .240 at the AS break I think he'd be embarrassed and might declined the invite. And I think if you asked Jeter about it, he'd say the same thing.
...I also think that at this point it's a 50/50 bet as to whether his ankle will hold up enough to allow him to play through April, much less July.

...but I'd also be willing to say that if he stays healthy through mid July, there's no way he'll be hitting .240.

I agree he'll be there no matter what, he's not declining anything, and it's the right thing to do, the game means nothing, it's an exhibition, nobody cares if some player having a great season misses the game for Jeter, it's all about seeing the greats play together and Jeter is a great.
 
The crowd will not care what Jeter is batting. They will be happy to see him and give him a long standing ovation.
 
He SHOULD only make it if he earns it... that is what I think he wants and what would be fair to his legacy... that being said, I'm sure the fans will vote him in no matter what, and if for some reason they don't, he'll be a coaches add-on...

no, they aren't... But, there are enough Yankee fans and enough baseball fans who respect the game and what he is to the game to vote him in regardless... I hope he earns his way in and it's a moot point
 
I believe most of the time whenever it was know that a future "Hall of Famer" was wrapping up his carreer, he was "elected" to the ASG as a tribute to the player.
 
...all I'm saying is that if he's having a bad year I would hope that he'd say "I don't deserve to be there"...that's the Jeter I'm familiar with.

...I understand that, but as far as being voted in, fans have shown that they are biased and don't always vote for the player that truly deserves to be there.

which emphasizes what I was trying to say... he'll likely be voted in anyway... whether he deserves it from this years performance or not, he'll likely be voted in...
 
Regardless, he'll be voted in for his career accomplishments & not for what he'll be doing in his final year. And though not every fan is a Yankee fan, Any BASEBALL fan can appreciate someone like Jeter.

Ron, I think you have to approach this topic like your posting history. You're an old person, washed up and eat most of your food through a straw. BUT......if we were to have a sports board all star game you'd still get voted in. And it wouldn't matter that your brain has turned into mashed potato's or that your opinions sound like your reading from the biography of Elmer J fudd. We'd still appreciate what you once were. A sports board legend. And no, I'm not just trying to be nice.

...still am...once a member, always a member. In fact, I still have the Taco Bell coupons they gave me....Youfail introduced me at the ceremony...and during my acceptance speech I took the time to thank "all the little people who made this day possible".
 
Jeter will end up with an absurd amount of votes either way this year. That being said I think he's going to have a solid season as he bows out.
 
...if he can stay on the field and stay healthy I'm not worried about his defense as much as some people...just his presence is worth something...and I don't think .275-.300 is out of the question. And again, if he can jus stay on the field it will be light years better than the SS production from last year.
