Should NJ take a chance on JR Smith ?

I personally saw this game first off the Nuggets were getting killed and A.I.'s shot selection is worse than JR Smith but Karl only picks on JR who just came off the bench and dropped 43 points infront of a Bulls team that thought the game was over. I would hope that Kiki could persuade Thorn to give him a shot, I think he can benefit from playing close to NJ.

I think George Karl literally just doesn't like him for watever reason. I mean when he gets minutes he produces but Karl throws him to the back of the line.

He would be awesome coming off the bench, though Karl may reconsider him after his game last night. I also like Kareem Rush and Gerald Green. I wouldn't mind getting House back either, he brought plenty of energy off the bench.

Can't argue with you there. Why didn't they just trade the kid? Would've solved a whole bunch of problems.

my guess they are trying to keep him for cheap, but it is apparent they won't keep him past this season and keep Karl too.

the only problem is he does get cocky from 3 point range, but once he gets hot people said he has a killer instinct, he's had it since his H.S. days. And I remember that first shot he took at the Mc D's ASG I knew he was going for it, he wanted to state to the world he has arrived, too bad he hasn't found a home yet & Scott/Karl just plainly didn't like him.

I watched that Bulls game too. His shots WERE from fantasy land - he had a great game, but he's not going to be that hot every night.

With threads like these i'm really curious as to what kind of team does half of this board think it's trying to build.

JR Smith has bundles of talent but his decision making and matador defense has no place on a team that Frank's at the helm of. Our team is run in a very professional manner where we need every piece we have to be on the same page. JR Smith has not once in his career shown he's out for anything more than himself.

Mentioning that Karl didn't come down on AI when he routinely goes after JR is the dumbest thing in this thread. Those two have no rights being mentioned in the same sentence and whoever doesn't get the reason George is riding JR so hard is seriously blind. Karl, Scott, and Frank have very similar coaching mentalities where they need to trust their players t be able to insert them into games. Smith has failed to instill any confidence in the first two do you really think it will be any different for us?

The Nets turning around misfit players days are over fellas. It bit us in the butt far too many times to go back to that well anytime soon.

Of all the options on the market, including Boki, Pietrus, and Barnes; Smith has the most talent.

Obviously the knock on him is character, defense, and a sometimes crazy shot selection. He is however young at only 22, and could potentially be a superstar if he ever gets his head together. Assuming we are going to try to remain a playoff team and we keep our now dynamic duo of Vince and RJ then Smith would be a sensible choice to replace Boki as a 6th man.

As a franchise we have recently taken chances on players in the draft with character flaws and work ethic issues...players such as Marcus Williams, Josh Boone and Sean Williams were considered to have character concerns when we selected them in the draft.

Sometimes in life you have to take a risk in order to reap rewards...Smith would obviously be risk but he could potential be a great player...he's young and talented, maybe he just needs a chance on a team with the proper leadership and coach.

Personally I think that players like RJ and Vince could help this kid to grow up and reach his potential, and as much as I sometimes loathe Frank he has handled players with baggage before and may be able to better reach Smith that Karl currently is.

The fact remains that the biggest weakness on this team is our obvious lack of a 6th man, due to this absence both RJ and Vince have to play to many minutes and are unable to take games off in order to let there injuries heal. Having a player like Smith on this team would allow us to keep both RJ and Vince's minutes in the low 30s rather than the 38.7 mins they both currently average. With a guy like Smith on the bench We could keep them both at 33 mins while giving Smith 30 mins a night with which we can safely assume he'd be able to average 15+ off the bench.

Given his age and talent, and the fact that he won't be that expensive; I personally view him as a strong possibilty for us come this offseason.</div>

Marcus took a laptop. Sean smoked pot. Boone had questions about his effort. Not exactly a group of high risks if you ask me. A lot of stupidity but nowhere was there a gun to be found. And just because those panned out, we should continue to press our luck on a guy who despite all the talent he has cannot figure out the simple things that will keep him getting playing time for 2 straight coaches who share similar philosophies to the one our front office is standing firmly behind? Sorry, just not seeing it.

The last thing this team wants is a headline about something JR's done being back and around his crew on it's move to Brooklyn.

We have the young talent (Williamses, Harris, Boone, Mo?, Diop?, Nenad?) that still has plenty to work on, not to mention Stro. Lets get some more vets in here to teach them how to play the right way because DA, VC, and RJ can't do everything.

whether JR is good or bad for them either way, george karl is a bad coach. he constantly blames his players, takes shots at them, doesnt run any offense, doesnt beleive in defense and is such a bastard who somehow keeps his job even with mediocre records and now they wont make the playoffs this year, if the nuggets had won that game, karl wouldnt have said anything about JR but they lost and he blames the guy who kept them in the game, if his shot selection was so bad, why'd he keep him in? he's such a bad coach
