Should Nurk spend time in the weight room this summer?

I am not too worried about his conditioning. It has already improved since he arrived. It will come naturally when he plays more minutes every game. Hard to duplicate being in basketball condition during the off season without playing. And do we really want him playing in games all through the off season? He has September and October for that.

He just needs to do what he did last off season and that is come back in shape.(which means some time in the weight room) AND work on his game like every player should be doing.

I didn't read shit after this Don't fucking condescend me when you don't know what the hell you're talking about.
Michael Jordan didn't need upper body strength........
until he met the Detroit Pistons :)

You don't have to have bulging muscle to be strong I Nurk is very strong and pushing a few weights won't hurt him. But developing his skills is more important thing for him this off season. He hasn't been playing basketball that long so he does have some more growth in his skills. One thing he has really good feet and I have seen make some great moves. But he needs practice his left hand more and learn different type moves on the low post.

I'm not talking about unofficiated games. I've seen guys try to get away with pushing underneath to get position for a rebound, and it's just a nudge, a lot of times when the player is already moving in the position of the nudge or is in the air. You don't need weight room strength for that. If you used extreme force the refs will almost always catch you. Nor do you need it to stick out your forearm and hold position.

I'm not splitting hairs, because this thread was about Nurkic going to the weight room, citing his arms didn't look muscular. If he got jacked arms, how would that make him better?

If you really think that pushing/shoving/elbows/shoulders etc aren't used to gain an advantage in basketball there is really nothing else to talk about.
You are splitting hairs with me because I've already said multiple times to you.. That core strength is just as important as arm strength for any human being.
If you really think that just because someone isn't jacked they don't work on their arm strength there is nothing else to say.
You just want to argue, just to argue. I won't do it. ta-ta

Sheed kept his weight down though, I have questions about Nurk being 7', 285 and being able to hold up over 82+ games on 30+mpg for the next 4-5 years.
I don't know of many Centers in todays nba who thrive being so close to 300.
Drummond is the only one? Gasol brothers/Lopez brothers are around the 250-260 mark. Andrew Bynum was listed at 284.
I think weight lifting is just a way for Nurk to drop weight that is low impact on the knees. Unless he wants to jump in the pool(which is even more low impact on the knees) I think the Blazer training staff will attempt to get him to the 250-260 mark.

Nurkic weighed somewhere around 250 at the beginning of the season. He lost 35 this past summer. He hasn't been 280 in years, even if he packed on some pounds this season. Actually, he hasn't been 280 since he got into the league. He lost weight between pre draft workouts and the start of his rookie season. Whatever he's at now is pretty close to his ideal weight moving forward. At least in my opinion.

There's natural strength and there's weight room strength. It's clear which side of the equation Nurk is on. Much of it is genetic. Just look at pictures of his dad. If you didn't have a sense of scale, you'd think he's some frumpy old guy, not a 400 lb bad ass.

Nurk has a bit of the Danny Manning physique, where it defies reason that there's any strength there.

The only real advantage to him adding muscle mass is intimidation.

This

Watch Nurkic when he posts someone up. A lot of times it's hard to see on the regular tv angle but when they go with an overhead shot you can really see just how strong Nurkic is. Guys get put on skates when he backs down and it doesn't even look like he's doing anything out of the ordinary. That's just natural strength straight from papa Nurkic.

Ill say it again. He doesn't need anymore strength or weight. He needs cardio... and improved footwork/ball handling.

This discussion is still going on?
lol

I agree. And maybe work on hand strength. I don't know how one would do that wink wink hmm anyone know a way to work on hand strength wink wink

He has a hot GF, you need to figure out a different workout regime, lol.

Jesus Christ, get some reading comprehension skills. Nothing you've said has anything to do with what I said.

Didn't Nurk himself say he lost 15lbs over the break, so he could get in game shape?
I doubt he is at 250 yet. He himself has said he's not in shape yet.

Like I have said Nurk does not look like he needs to lose any weight. But I am curious to know what he weighs. He just looks so much bigger than everyone else. Hard to believe he is around 250-260.
270+ would be my guess

I think any 22 year old would like to have a jacked upper body. I doubt Nurk is any different. I think he'll hit the weights hard this summer.

I honestly think Nurkic is at 300 or above. I saw him next to Okafor during the 76ers game and he looked waaaaaaay bigger. Okafor is listed at 275. And that is a pretty recent measurement. He is a large man.

Nurk has a big frame and bone structure, which is more valuable than being really strong.
